In response I say:
1. You can’t be the best at snap counts.
2. DBs making tackles is not a good thing. Runners are either getting to the second level or WRs are catching the ball. Both are negatives.
3. The best players find ways to help their team win.
I’ve heard these arguments:
1. Consider the snap count.
2. Look at all these tackles he’s making.
3. He’s the best player on the field at any given time.
I mean props to him for being able to handle that. And I think I heard him say he would continue to play both ways in the NFL. But shouting that he DESERVES THE HEISMAN without the resume is just hubris. I’d even be willing to entertain it if he was like top 20 on defense. But he’s not.
Hunter isn’t doing shit to earn the Heisman. Don’t let the propaganda fool you. He’s a nice little player but in no way deserves to be crowned as the best player in college football in 2024.

Here’s more proof. I went back through the last 10 Heisman winners to see their teams worst losses and whether the winner led in any statistical category. The outlier is Lamar Jackson with 2 unranked losses but still led in total TDs. No other winner’s team had more than one unranked loss.
It’s good to see USC and UCLA living up to their offensive potential.
