oops it's already late, but I wanted to share some short #settphel stories I wrote for halloween a few years back! they're inspired by different spooky tropes. there's 6 of them (vampire, ghost, yokai, witch, werewolf, and magician) in the replies!

getting into new games with friends

happy 1st debut anniversary to heartsteel! I love this group of different and diverse little weirdos, all getting their second chance, and charming us in spite of (or because of?) the rough edges. they are far from typical polished boyband perfection but that is why I adore them

I just think that with so much that had to go unspoken despite it being clear how much depth the team gave HS, that the little things emphasized like this can be such a treat for fans. heartsteel and brockhampton are not analogous, but I think the influence b/w the two is clear!

brockhampton played such a role in the queer coding of phel and HS. and overall, it meant so much for k'sante (confirmed gay) to be in HS, for things like the bi and mlm colours on the settphel icon, for paranoia being included in the official pride playlist (I could go on!)

there was so much queer coding around phel and HS as a whole, I think these hints should be included in that picture. I also don't think it's insignificant that they would tell us aphelios looks up to abstract, a gay man who escaped religious abuse to live with his sister 💗

I don't think we're meant to draw 1 to 1 conclusions, but the team behind heartsteel was so thoughtful and heartfelt about this project, these connections between aphelios and brockhampton/kevin abstract are probably significant enough they can give us hints about him

I was lucky enough to see abstract in concert recently and enjoyed it so much it got me looking more into his music and life. he's an incredible person, to understate it. the suffering he experienced instantly resonated with me and has clearly heavily influenced his music.

brockhampton and kevin abstract were also included in aphelios' playlist, it's clear how important this band is meant to be to him. both songs are from the perspective of a gay man singing to his boyfriend. while SAH got fans really riled I want to highlight kevin abstract here

I think aphelios' answer is a chance for fans to read between some lines and draw valid conclusions. this vision for brockhampton evokes heartsteel so strongly; a group of men rejected by the 'status quo,' all so different, but who unite and create something equally multifaceted
