Scotland has coped with native wildlife on its banknotes for years, I'm pretty sure England will too. Dozens of countries do it, from what I've read today. Wildlife done well can look beautiful and detailed drawings create notes harder to forge.

I can recommend Ava Glass' spy novels - the third is set in Edinburgh and includes the street I used to live on...
Mine did around 40 years, only replaced after a guy servicing it said "it still works but if it stops working we literally can't get any parts". I replaced it rather than have it die midwinter and leave me freezing - as happened to my neighbour a year later, whose system was the same age.
