I think itโs fair to say that convenience always wins. Weโre a slothful lot and most of us will happily sacrifice our privacy for a stream of cat memes. #SadButTrue

#BC confuses me. They scrap #DST and move to year-round Mountain Standard Time, but they want to keep calling it Pacific Time. Mโkay.
Whoโs the dummy who booked a Sunday morning on-site the day of the DST shift? This guy, thatโs who. Iโm already mourning the loss of my extra hour of daylight in the morning. But hey, thereโs coffee. #DST
I would โขreallyโข like another Nellyโs. Best LARP experience ever. Iโm booked for CAiNE this year, but it will likely be a social eventโฆ and possibly a motorcycle trip. Will check out โPerson of Interestโ when I get back from Prague.
Hmm. If weโre going to use #TOTP for our #2FA, why are we entering it โขafterโข our passwords? Seems to me that we would cut down on a lot of phishing if we had to enter it first in order to get to our password prompt in the first place. #CoffeeThoughts #InfoSec
Thursday is #PinkShirtDay, supporting anti-bullying efforts. Itโs a worthy cause and it has my full support. Still, being an #ElderGeek, I will always think of my Team OS/2 days when I think of pink t-shirts.
Okay, I really like MikroTikโs #RouterOS for routing. Itโs good at that. Iโm slowly learning that it could use a lot of improvement in its client functionallyโฆ beginning with standards-compliant (and consistent) behaviour from its DNS resolver.
Two coffees later it dawned on me that I was pinging from the device anchoring the pseudowire, so IPv6 was fragmenting at source. A packet capture showed the fragmentation headers โขandโข the missing MRRU attribute in the L2TPv3 pseudowire setup. Should have started there. #NetEng #ThereAreDays 2/2
I just spent an hour #Labbing an #L2TPv3 pseudowire native fragmentation (#PWE3) problem. Turns out the platform doesnโt โขdoโข native fragmentation, but it took forever to figure this out because my oversized #IPv6 pings were crossing the wire. This shouldnโt happen without native fragmentation. 1/2
Today I learned that #Proxmox VE has predefined TAP interfaces for every #VM interface. #Serendipity
There are labels that are only relevant when theyโre assigned to us by others. โAwesomeโ, โcoolโ, and โinfluencerโ are a few. When people apply these to us, itโs a sign that weโre doing something valuable. When we apply these to ourselves, thatโs a different thing. #Labels #Awesome #Cool #Influencer
Word of the day: Assiduity n. great care and attention to detail. A required quality of networking practitioners engaged in labbing. If we don't know all of the details of how a thing works, we don't โขreallyโข know how it works at all. #NetEng
Thatโs why itโs taken me so long. I left once back in 2011, but got sucked in again because some class I was taking used it for their student materials. Itโs definitely worse now than when I left last time.
In other news, I picked up a Glenfarclas 15 tonight. ๐
Yeah, just got tired of feeding the algorithmโฆ and being a bit of a slave to it too, truth be told. Iโm primarily on Mastodon, but crossposting here as well.
I should create my own automation engine and call it โAlโ (a tip of the hat to Paul Simonโs โCall Me Alโ there.) Iโm thinking that Al-driven blueprints might find some popularityโฆ for reasons. ๐ #AI #Al
If a vendor or provider is trying to become an industry leader and we hear them using the โOur customers havenโt been asking for that.โ excuse, theyโre failing. Yes, listening to customers is important. Letting their wants of the moment sum up the company โstrategyโ is a warning sign. #Observations
Sadly, depending on where people are, that part may or may not be new.
Globally, 2026 (and maybe a few years leading up to it) is a perfect storm of the ideas found in the โ1984โ and โBrave New Worldโ novels. Control narratives where possible and flood the feed with distraction so that nobody can focus on any one thing long enough to build something better.
Today's wisdom from my brilliant kid, Sean: Today, children are โขnotโข being taught to use computers. They're being taught to be used โขbyโข computers. #WeNeedToProcessThis
Let me know when LLMs get past the point where a new employee producing similar results wouldnโt be summarily let go in their probationary period. #AI #LLM
That bubble needs to burst quickly. AI has some really cool uses (finding needles in haystacks and other large-scale analytics) but those arenโt what most people are using it for. Itโs too often a solution desperately trying to find problems to justify itself.
Iโve been selected to present at the #MikroTik Professionals Conference in Prague at the beginning of March. I guess I had best iron out the details of my presentation before then. #MTPC

I donโt think Iโve seen a server (that wasnโt serving a DNS role) with a static IPv6 yet. Iโm sure Iโll run across one eventually.
Iโm sureโฆ though it disturbs me a bit that we have scenarios where weโre doing this.
