Happy Hatch Day, Fisher! Earlier this month our Humboldt penguin turned 9.

Fisher loves spending time with his keepers and meeting guests during penguin encounters. He is one of our bachelor penguins and you can tell him apart from the other penguins with his black and pink band.

Next time you’re at the Zoo, swing by the Children’s Zoo to say hi to our North American river otter. His species is an “indicator” species, meaning that their presence is a sign of a clean and healthy waterway. You can help protect them by reducing single-use plastics.

Did you know you can see the smallest species in the hammerhead shark family right here in Houston? 🦈 Step inside our Galápagos Islands exhibit and visit our One Ocean aquarium where you can spot bonnethead sharks, rays, Bobbi our green sea turtle, and several species of fish.

Oh my gourd! It’s National Pumpkin Day and we’re celebrating pumpkin season around the Zoo. 🎃

We’re staying open until 9:30pm now through Oct. 30 for Zoo Boo Extended Hours. Plan your fall visit at houstonzoo.org.

Our first Día de los Muertos event is next weekend, on November 1-2 with the Zoo staying open later until 9:30pm. At the heart of the event is a traditional ofrenda (altar) created to honor animals who are no longer with us like our beloved jaguar Tesoro. 💚 (1/2)

We’re just okapi-tivated by this cuteness! Our 6-week-old okapi is spending time outdoors behind the scenes with mom Sukari before he makes his public debut. Stay tuned for an update on this striped cutie.
