Bye bye Honduras!
Still to come, about 800 full-text article screenings for the systematic review from hell, plus various CV conversions for my new position.
Current writing retreat status update: in addition to checking email (as Iβm technically not on PTO), Iβve submitted one journal article, submitted one manuscript review, and created four 1-hour PowerPoint presentations with accompanying lecture notes.
Did a little more work on systematic review from hell and then it was time for lunch. Neither son nor I were very hungry and what I got wasnβt worth a picture to share.
Lunch over, it was back to the cabin for quiet time and more work.
The front of my ship
All three ships in port. Norwegian Escape on left in dock 1, Norwegian Dawn in background (tendering), and MSC Seascape (my ship) on right in dock 2
Post-massage, purchased some spare tissue packs (in case of further development of cold) and headed back to ship.
Massage table in a cabana over the water, with the cruise ship in the background. Sign on cabana says βrelease & relaxβ
Docked in Roatan and, feeling slightly better, went out for a shop and massage. Had a massage last time I was here (in January) and it was so much better and half the price of the shipβs massage (and they donβt try to upsell you either). Been looking forward to this for a while now.
Congee (which the ship does a horrible job of - not recommended), bacon with maple syrup, grits with sausage and peppers, and country potatoes
Had a bit of a rough sleep last night and feel like Iβm coming down with something, which is quite annoying on a writing retreat on a boat.
Nonetheless, time marches on and so does breakfast.
Did decent on logic today

Itβs another plant with a face! Like Flower Groot! I love the miniature collection. Would go great in a miniature greenhouse.
Sunrise from the balcony
Coming into port on the map. Roatan, Honduras
Good morning from here!
Your ΠΠΠΎΠΊ JND 0.0082 Solidly below the standard JND. You probably get unreasonably annoyed when someone says two slightly different blues are 'the same colour. You're right, by the way. They're wrong.
0.0049 Genuinely remarkable. You sailed past the theoretical human limit like it owed you money. l'd accuse you of cheating but I don't actually know how you'd cheat at this.
Tried twice on the same screen (iPhone), but once in dimmer light (left) and once in brighter light with the screen on max brightness (right).

I did ok, but want to try again on a different screen
Would be great if there was a way for folks to look themselves up without needing to sign into Grammarly.
View of sunset from our balcony
Our location on a map, just south of Mahahual
Sunset at sea from about here.
Son had the NY strip, which was pretty nice for a regular entree
Husband and I both had the lamb shank. I particularly liked the mashed potatoes because they had a little nutmeg in.
Son had the vegan chocolate fudge cake and was not impressed
Husband and I both had the chocolate duo and thought the red berry compote was the best part of the dish.
Entrees and desserts:
Son enjoyed spring rolls
Husband liked the stuffed mushrooms
The octopus wasnβt what I was expecting, but it was tasty
Itβs dinner time! Appetizers:
Picture as we head out of port
And weβre off!
Four ship officers and a few other folks waiting on the dock
The long dock towards the port. Waiting for late folks running so they donβt get left behind
And, as the last ship to leave, the ship officers danced around on the dock while we hung out at the railings, watching for runners.
Enchantment of the Seas leaving port. You can see the Princess ship just ahead
Then Royal Caribbeanβ¦
Norwegian Encore leaving port
Then Norwegianβ¦
Regal Princess leaving port, with Norwegian Encore in slip on left
After the spa it was time to change for dinner. Finished just in time to see the other ships leave. First Princessβ¦
After lunch it was back to the cabin for some quiet time for son and some work time for the adults. Got my third presentation almost done and then headed for the Thermal spa. Did in fact run into colleague from other school in the spa. Good thing I was wearing my cute swimsuit.
A large plate of food, including an empanada, mutton biryani, cilantro chicken, veggie curry, grilled veggies, and two types of Indian cucumber salad.
Took one trip down the tube slides, then changed for lunch. Only the buffet was open so thatβs where we headed. Some very nice salads and veggie curry at the Indian counter along with an empanada from the counter near the pizza.
Thatβs gorgeous!
A cappuccino in a small white porcelain mug. View from the deck in blurry background.
After a little time in the cabin to digest breakfast, we changed into swimsuits and went up on deck. Son enjoyed the kids pool and slides while I enjoyed a cappuccino and a view along with finishing up my second presentation creation.
Rice congee, roll with apricot sauce, bacon, and country potatoes
Iβm on a ship
Three large cruise ships: Princess on left pulling in, while the RCCL on middle and Norwegian on right are already docked.
We have three ships in port so far, a Royal, a Princess, and Norwegian. Weβll be number four.
Sunrise from balcony. To the very left you can see a couple of boats already in port.
We are here, just outside Mahahual
Good morning, Bluesky! Have a sunrise
Sone came back early, requesting a snack, so husband and I raided the buffet. Son got a big slice of cheese pizza and I got a couple of desserts. MSC is beating RCCL on desserts for sure.
After dinner we walked over and said hi to Associate Dean and colleague and families and exchanged ship contact info as colleagueβs son and my son hit it off. Then back to cabin for more work while son went back to kids club.
