Hey how about we alienate our core audience by stealing potential power users' identities?

I guess this is why we usually talk about what percentage of people use transit, rather than kilometres built.

Having visited both... I would be interested to learn how much of that is down to denser cities requiring fewer kms of rail.

Smaller towns obviously don't have any but will still be far more walkable than in N America for the same reason.

The sun must be out in Toronto because I just saw a man with a fabulous green velvet jacket and cowboy boots strutting down College St. Headphones on, Pabst Blue Ribbon in hand.

Both were typed by a human. LLMs always capitalise the first letter in their sentence.

In Night City, there are vendors crammed into corners and in-between spaces. Apartment buildings have retail, boxing gyms (or in Megabuilding 8 it’s more of a baseball bat gym), and social spaces right outside your door. When you wander the city you are encouraged to interact with it.

What Cyberpunk 2077 Can Teach Real-World Cities - Aftermath Night City's urban design highlights the problems, and solutions, real cities deal with around walkability, housing, and mixed-use areas

It's hit Gamepass so lots of new people are discovering that @cyberpunk.net is a truly awesome game now... so let me take this opportunity to repost this essay I wrote for @aftermath.site about the urbanism of Cyberpunk and what real cities can learn from Night City.

After my ADHD diagnosis, I began to rethink how I play games Gaming can be a very seductive way to self-medicate, or at least self-soothe

Mothership is a very cool new queer and women-owned games site that is doing the kind of games journalism I didn't know I needed.

I have (unmedicated) ADHD and I have over 2000 hours in Super Smash Bros. This article helped me see the link.

It's not an exaggeration to say that the reason your fave bands are too expensive to see live now is because of corruption in the US government

What comes before & after this qu:

"Books aren’t just commodities; the profit motive is often in conflict with the aims of art...

We who live by writing & publishing want & should demand our fair share of the proceeds; but the name of our beautiful reward isn’t profit. Its name is freedom."

I fully don't understand people posting ChatGPT caricatures. For those who like and use GenAI tools they'll see something entirely unimpressive because they can also take 10 seconds to make it.

But for the segment of audience who haven't bought the hype you just lost a lot of respect.

This quote is basically the entire reason I write sci-fi and make Pagenerd.

We have to be able to imagine better.

(And then as a writer do horrible things to fictional characters because it makes a good story)

In each episode we pick a sci-fi novel β€” current or classic β€” and explore its world and characters, discussing what it would be like to exist in that novel and how well it's realised on the page.

But the format isn't really the point.

PageNerd A podcast about books

If you haven't checked out my lovely new show yet but have been thinking about listening later... could I ask a small favour?

If you listen before the end of today you'll help us hit a big round number that I was quietly hoping we'd make it to in our first week.

If there's media you care about, it's hard to overstate how important it is that you subscribe to it. Ad rates are garbage, and the changes to search mean fewer new folks discovering sites they didn't already visit.

I swear there's a subset of Toronto columnists who instinctively trust a serious looking old white man. That's basically all John Tory has going for him.

He did a terrible job whether you're left or right leaning, but he looks the part. These folks are telling on themselves.

Like what's the point of electing a democrat if they're just gonna rubberstamp the worst and least popular Republican policies.

Oh 100%, Whedon totally thought he was writing a likeable lead. He's telling on himself in retrospect. I was much younger when it came out and not really a writer yet so I didn't really dissect it that way though.
