Get a glimpse into the life of the everyday person who lived thousands of years ago through the objects they used in their daily lives. You might be surprised how similar ancient Egyptians were to us today!

British surgeon Nick Maynard, who has just returned from volunteering in Gaza, explains to #GMB viewers how Israel confiscates all baby formula that doctors like him try to take with them.

Why does Israel do this? Because they want to starve Palestinian babies to death.

Seems trivial in the face of this horror but if I know one thing from studying Carthage it’s the importance of preserving the counter-narrative, the documentation of the evidence, and bearing witness.

"It’s clear now that nothing will shame the West into stopping Israel from carrying out its “total victory” in Gaza. But I’ve written this to serve as yet another reminder that we all knew what was coming. Nobody can feign ignorance. Nobody can pretend they didn’t know."

Yesterday marked my 8-year #Workiversary at the @uclpetriemuseum.bsky.social - something I'd never have believed 8 years ago.

Still very proud to work with such a special collection which continues to delight and surprise our visitors every day!

Seeing Egypt differently: Lee Miller’s photos go on display in London In 1934, an American-born but often UK-based photographer moved to Egypt, and some of her rarely seen photos are on display at the moment.

Sudan: How war ravaged museums and priceless artefacts - BBC News Sudan's national museum is among the institutions that have been looted and vandalised during the war.

'On a typical day, groups of school children would stare in awe at this reminder of their nation's imposing past, tourists would file through one of Khartoum's must-sees and concerts were held in the grounds. But that was before war broke out'

I was determined to find this building on a visit to Leeds about 15yrs ago. I was there, minding my own business & taking photos (in broad daylight) when police arrived and escorted me back to the main road due to it being in a 'dangerous' red light area. I was furious as I'd only been there 5mins!

Mohamed Salah: a bridge between worlds in Liverpool The Egyptian is more than simply a role model in his adopted home, he speaks to the city’s broader mythology

'The idea of #Salah and #Liverpool bound to each other, each looking out for the other, is perhaps one that speaks to the city’s broader mythology. “My kids are scousers now,” he joked in a recent interview'

Last one - if you study #Egyptology and/or are interested in ancient #Egypt in general, I wholeheartedly encourage you to learn a bit of #Egyptian #Arabic. It will open a whole new side of the country for you, and help you to see #Egypt in a whole new light (13/13)

Each time I've visited the #Tutankhamun galleries at the Egyptian Museum over the last few years, I've assumed it'll be the last time before the objects are moved to their shiny new home in the Grand Egyptian Museum. But this time it really will be, as the GEM is due to fully open in July! (11/ )

Poking around the #Egyptian Museum makes me so happy. I always find something new - parts of the permanent displays are changing all the time, and there are always new details and different perspectives to be found. Still my favourite #museum in Egypt! (10/ )

In contrast, #Karnak Temple is a heavy place which always gives me a headache! Not sure I believe in the energy of places, but if I did then I'd be convinced of Karnak's negative energy. It's too big and overbearing, in spite of the beautiful little corners of the site. Not a place for me 😬 (9/ )

To me, #Luxor Temple is one of the most perfect places in the world, especially at sunset. Not sure exactly why, but something about it being relatively small and straightforward to explore makes my brain happy (8/ )

Despite its primary purpose to conceal the bodies of deceased pharaohs, the Valley of the Kings in #Luxor is brimming with life nowadays. From the #dogs who call the desert valley home, to the sassy #crocodiles painted 3000 years ago and still preserved on tomb walls (7/ )

Abydos is the site that really highlights the depth of history in #Egypt. One of Egypt's oldest cities, it has been occupied for over 5000 years. The beautiful temple of King Seti I hints at evidence of reuse over time (5/ )
