We have a house made to chickadee specs but they donβt seem interested yet. Weβre hoping!
Yes they are insect hunters and do love the big butterflies and moths. They will catch one and tenderize it against a perch before they eat it.
Oaxaca is one part of Mexico I haven't seen yet. Its said to have the best food and teh best birds so we hope to see it someday. Ojala!
I think of it as black-and-white spotted, like a Holstein is called a pied cow. But yeah...
This one has been coming around for three years now I think... but it used to be less white.... I just reposted a coupel of my earlier posts and others as well.. there are also a lot of Carolina Leucistics posted... so its not just black-capped...
Chickadee on a iron hook
Chickadee on branch
Several years in a row now we have had a partiallly-leucistic Black-capped Chickadee visit our backyard. Not sure ot is the same bird each year, but tonight this guy arrived. #birding
I have a semi-leucistic Black-capped Chickadee that comes to my backyard fountain once or so a year, and I saw that one a few weeks ago, but this BCCH that appeared yesterday is the real deal for Leucism. #birding

California Scrub-jay on a sign
Y'all love a blue bird, and I'm particularly fond of birds on signs. This handsome California Scrub-jay ticks both boxes as it oversees the restoration at Coffee Lake Creek Wetlands, Clackamas County, Oregon this afternoon. #birding
Leucistic Chickadee
White Chickadee on the fountain
Frosty the Chickadee on a branch
Frosty our Leucistic Black-capped Chickadee has been a regular presence around the fountain this last week. He (she?) is whiter than last visit and seems to have a (non-leucistic) mate. We hope they are not building a nest in the trees in the lot behind us as they are scheduled to be felled soon. πͺΆ

It's a beautiful place...
I highly recommend Pieter at Aratinga tours to book reservations, local guides, rental cars or transport. More a travel agent for birders than a tour company. aratinga-tours.com

It was a total fluke. Everyone was excited, especially our local guide. You know itβs a good bird when the guide gets animated

#BirdOfTheDay is #photogenic. But what bird isnβt??? ππ hereβs a Broad-billed Motmot we saw in Costa Rica last year. Cheers!
I love that place! We saw an Agami Heron there in 2016 and Gartered Trogon in β25.
