Shocking to see him claim this new interpretation “uphold[s] dignity for all”. Reminds me of the Russian politicians who introduced legislation taking away all freedoms for LGBTQ folk while proudly maintaining it wasn’t homophobic.

Given who the court chose to consult, it’s hard to see the ruling in favour of For (Some) Women Scotland as anything other than predetermined.
So wild. It really struck me when he reiterated the groups they heard from - 3 trans hate groups plus Amnesty Intl - that a ruling in favour of For (Some) Women Scotland was predetermined.
UK Supreme Court ruling on a dispute around trans rights by hearing from 3 trans hate groups is like watching a show trial in Putin’s Russia. How can such a “hearing” have any credibility?

Hate groups are asking the court to rule that, in the everyday application of anti-discrimination laws, a trans person’s affirmed gender should not be recognised.
Sorry to rant further, but another thought - it’s horrible how sexual violence is weaponised (typically I think disingenuously) in this “debate”. Surely however “sex” is defined, “men” won’t be flooding services for women survivors of sexual abuse.
Thank you for sharing this! Worrying to see how it pans out. Am I alone in tiring of BBC “objectivity”? Why are numbers of trans people “thought to be overestimated” and being contrasted here against “literally half the population”? Have they heard of something called minoritisation..?
