Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Audio)
YouTube video by Bruce Springsteen
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. Itโs dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

An influencer mentioned recently that social media has felt "weird." She posited algo changes or exhaustion as reasons why. It hit me today what's strange: No one knows if they're talking to a bot or not. If any of the comments we're reading are "real." It's deeply unsettling...

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

ANOTHER KIND OF LIE
Marta had worked for eight seasons as the head writer ofย Debbie Lied, the TV series she co-created with Jeff, an actor friend who moonlighted as a romantic interest for the titular character. โฆ
I have a flash piece in Wound Up Literary (that I somehow missed the publication date of, but hey better late than never!). This one sat in the drawer for awhile, and I'm so happy it's found a home. Enjoy!

The moment when 30 million American's received healthcare (2010) The moment when insurance companies had to start covering preexisting conditions, young adults could stay on their family's policy and I could trust that the small print couldn't screw me if I needed serious medical assistance. ๐บ๐ธ

This is your friendly reminder that Obamacare isnโt just the exchanges! Itโs a set of laws that force insurance companies to actually. You know, insure people!! You can read my full graphic explainer here: aubreyhirsch.substack.com/p/it-could-b...

About | Literary Arts Fund
The Literary Arts Fund advances support for the nonprofit literary arts field toward ensuring creative writersโ contributions to American literature for generations to come.
Enormous news for US literature. A new, Mellon-led, $50 million fund for nonprofit literary orgs and publishers. Closest thing we've ever had to it was Mellon and Wallace in 1991, which, in today's dollars, was still less than half this. Open call begins Nov 10. literaryartsfund.org/about/

I saw some back-and-forth happening on the Internet, and someone posited that the reason people resist the idea of "critical thinking" is because they think "critical" in this context means "being judgmental." Anywho, literacy rates are at their lowest since the early 90s have a nice day!!

With how ๐คฎall these streaming companies are behaving, I've been going back to borrowing DVDs from the library. Yes, I am ancient, but also, it feels better somehow??? Like, "It's DVD time, now. Phones down. Let's have an entertainment experience that reminds of us of a simpler time."

What Made Blogging Different?
Whether I like it or not, the first line of my obituary...
As a once-prolific blogger, this made me nostalgic. But sharing mostly for this line: "I did not expect Gawker to be as popular as it was....my personal theory about why it succeeded in the beginning is that it covered New York City media, and media people like to read about themselves." ๐

It is crazy the amount of times in the last few weeks I've said: "The New York Times is a conservative paper now, I guess"

I do not wish to learn about the "protocols" of the social media site I am on. I just want to make lil jokes with my friends and not see nazis. Why is this so hard for anyone who makes a social media site to understand
