"Even when she smiles back, my wifeβs face hardens like a henge of little rocks, her cheeks a pair of imploded sinkholes. But she looks as beautiful as ever."
Today at jmww, new ficton from Sarp Sozdinier:

Oh, this is just breathtakingly heartbreakingly beautiful.
Yes, and I have Amy's book and love it!
What a wonderful review of Baboons! I learned some things myself about the story. Thank you so much.
I enjoyed your story - esp. loved Ellie, perfect teenage vibes! Wrote about it (as I do all BASS stories) here:

Gutted by more layoffs in this industry. I once barely scraped by thanks to one of these funds after being laid off by Vox. I've donated to a few of these now and I sure wish it wasn't this way. Give if you can. gofund.me/158560c8
I'm working my way through this year's Best American Short Stories and loving every one of them. It's amazing to be included in this group of stellar stories. Thank you Lauren Groff and Heidi Pitlor.

My story "Lambs" is out with the wonderful journal "One Story." Thanks to Karen Friedman, amazing editor, and Patrick Ryan for choosing it and making it so much better.
I just signed with Susan Golomb at the Writers House and I feel very lucky to have found such a kindred spirit.
I'm watching it now...
I LOVED the essay in Salon about stranger danger. I'm ordering the book now! When I finish I'll review it.
Just before my brilliant sister Gail Shepherd died, completely unexpectedly, she read one of my stories and told me I needed to write a book of linked stories. Tonight, two years later, I finished and sent it to an agent. She has been beside me, guiding me through. Bittersweet.
My story "Snakes" is a distinguished story in the Best American Short Stories thanks to Elizabeth McKenzie and the Chicago Quarterly Review for publishing it and the people at BASS for choosing it.
You need to do a full-on stand-up one man show of this shit my friend. I saw Eddie Izzard in NY do a two hour recitation of David Copperfield. It was amazing.
"I feel the old ache againβmy friend, the hungerβ"
And:
"The witch welcomes them with her own toothless grin...."
Wow! These stunning fairy tales by @cherylpappas.bsky.social in @ettereview.bsky.social πππ
Hereβs a new short story of mine called βLeopoldβ, published by The Southwest Review. Itβs a long one 10,000 words or so. t.co/xERnJTXcPP
People are missing. We are sorry that they have gone.
