Oh- I’m a believer. In our little single-center study, PERT had a suspiciously high mortality benefit. I’m really interested in the question of what makes a good PERT- I suspect there’s a lot of heterogeneity across centers. Hard to get data though. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38641802/

I did my part today and let a insurance physician reviewer who denied a sleep study that they were a scourge to medicine and that I hope they don't have a sense of fulfillment in what they chose to do for a living

We're in a really bad spot with supposedly reputable journals regularly publishing dodgy stuff that expert/stats review should easily catch.
So expert review isn't happening consistently, for reasons we all understand in our bones.
It's a dream for malicious actors who can shop "papers" as needed.
No lawmaker in Congress should be able to own, buy, and sell individual stocks.

🧵Masked ICE thugs attempted to abduct the school nurse at Cooke Elementary School, located in the densely populated Adams Morgan section of DC. Workers at the school intervened, demanding a warrant and holding up their phones and ICE scurried off without making their arrest.

Not enforcing the existing laws- certainly tracks with my experience working in a safety-net hospital. Definitley true that HCWs are at super-high risk of workplace violence, I just haven’t seen evidence showing that incarceration helps. California just passed bill 977, so we can see what happens!
Agree with the first bit, 100%. The second bit- idk. Many of the patients swinging at HCWs aren’t legal scholars. Might imprison a bunch of mentally ill poor people by accident. I wonder if mandating better staffing ratios might help as much as criminalizing patients. www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....
