Does this scene from Fritz Lang's THE BIG HEAT remind you of anything?
RIP
In the mid-late 80s, Slava Tsukerman had been approached by Dolph Lundgren to helm an adaptation the Italian fumetti RANXEROX...
After the Manichean Drago and He-Man, Dolph Lundgrenβs RED SCORPION and THE PUNISHER both fitted right into the middle of the good-guy / bad-guy spectrumβ¦
Reportedly Dolph contributed to the choreography of this scene

I first met #DolphLundgren 18 years ago, and collaborated with him for several years, now he's written the foreword of my book...
Happy 2026 to you all and thank you so much for your love and support!
All things come to those who wait...
Happy 68th Birthday, Dolph Lundgren! π
Here he was photographed while promoting THE PUNISHER at NATO/Showest Convention in February 1989 (months before post-production was finished)...

Note that when the first draft of the PUNISHER movie screenplay was penned in the spring of 1987, this was the last appearance of the character in comics, as the monthly run wold come out later that year...
Launched on this day 40 years ago in October 1985 (yet dated January 1986 on the cover), the first solo Punisher comic title came out in a mini-series of five issues, now commonly known as THE PUNISHER: CIRCLE OF BLOOD.

As shown as in this 2-page advert, New World Pictures was not shy about announcing the movie in trades such as Variety and Hollywood Reporter a couple of times during production.

20 years ago, the PUNISHER soundtrack was finally released after a 16-year wait. π
Label Perseverance Records even included a 23-minute bonus interview with composer Dennis Dreith and director Mark Goldblatt.
In 2023 and 2024, the score was re-released on CD and LP through Notefornote Music...
#35thanniversary
In June 1990, 8 months after the film opened in Europe, Marvel Comics unexpectedly published "The Punisher Movie Special" in the U.S.
This official comics adaptation was issued in complete discrepancy with the not yet scheduled North American home video release...
Because of some unforeseen issues, the films that preceded THE PUNISHER were LOBSTER MAN FROM MARS and HOWLING V, unlike what this advert says...
#35Anniversary (US)
On July 8, 1990 was held one of the few theatrical screenings in the US, 9 months before its official home video release.
