I think good augmented reality would be super helpful for a ton of home tasks; but these things are just pervert glasses
Seemed like both teams took the game exactly as important as it was to them. We've got four teams breathing down our necks, you have 22 games before your real season starts
until a couple hours ago i told myself that clayton keller had never had a political opinion in his life, and i preferred it that way. why not just say you have to get back to salt lake to prepare for the avs tomorrow? that's literally what brock nelson is doing in the other direction!!!
I was stunned when I realized IIHF/Olympics used 3v3; I thought it was just a fun gimmick for the NHL regular season to limit wear and tear on the players and get folks home for work the next morning
i cannot figure out why everyone else seems good with 3v3 for an elimination game
keeping control of the puck is somewhat more important
3v3 is a fun way to make sure everyone gets home at a sane hour, it's a truly insane way to decide a game that matters
This gets a lot more interesting than people realize if 3 & 5 can fight under a single flag, but as things stand I assume 3 is only here because we're the hosts
(None of this is me defending Weigel in any way--he is tied with Sirota for "worst Northwestern grad from that time period named 'David'"--I just find the 7 year window in Illinois politics from '97-'04 wildly interesting in retrospect.)
Niche comment, but easy to misinterpret voting in the '04 IL GOP primary. That was at the end of a brief window when the IL GOP looked like it could become a fairly non-ideological coalition opposed to the old school patronage system
* The [by-then-indicted] GOP gov had run to the left of the Dem!
If someone thought when he announced "maybe this won't be much worse than Romney," I could totally get that. If someone thought that in late '24, I can only assume they have the IQ of a brick.
Eh, I feel like by the time he ran for senate there weren't many enablers left. But man, I would love to read a long form piece on what happened with Curtis. My limited understanding is that he was "good, actually" back when he was mayor.
Dude I repressed those memories for a reason
my most niche take is that the right's former pretension that they were all about morality turns out to have been load bearing
I met both Peter and Jill a lifetime ago. Very briefly in her case, a few hours in his. I find it extraordinarily difficult to believe she did not know who she married: if you had told me "stabby duck, someone you've met is in the Epstein files" I would have guessed Peter without hesitation
I think youβre probably right that a lot of it is βSLC is now much bigger than the technical SLC boundaries.β Harris only won the county by 10 so obviously there are still a lot of GOP voters here. But I think even places like Sandy are changing
The county as a whole is pretty blue at this point, but thatβs a fairly recent shift
Certainly my view. Just was thinking that guarding against that is complicated unless you are getting towards that top 1 or 2%. Although as I think about it more, even if you "only" have 100k there is a big difference between all 100k in VT vs. putting 20k of that into gold or commodities
I mean this is the difference between hedging against "we run the 1930s back" and hedging against "everything is literally on fire." It's worth at least thinking about the first notwithstanding that most of us can't do anything about the second!
this is right for the vast majority of people but to be a bit pedantic about it there are secret third things in addition to "everything the same" and "world on fire." Think "material drop in Nvidia," "USD falls significantly," etc.
100%. And *no* sports work that way!! Last year's NFL playoffs were relatively competitive until the Super Bowl, but you still had the Broncos and Vikings getting crushed in the first round, and also about that Super Bowl
Also let's be real Sacks probably isn't especially stupid in the abstract so much as yet more evidence that being a billionaire is roughly as good for your brain as being repeatedly kicked in the head by a horse
Miami is a not-so-low-key incredible city, and I refuse to be negatively polarized against it notwithstanding the many incredibly obvious reasons it's not replacing NYC's financial sector
You're a much better friend than I am; I would only have shown him this *after* he'd tried it
It's hard to figure out the answer separate from age in the sense that at least after ~25 being younger is easier than being older, but there's a pretty decent "objective" case to be made for '15
Ugh started following for the Discworld QOTD didn't realize you had such problematic "feelings" have unsubscribed and reported
100%. Knowing I've lived in Virginia does not say much about what type of place it was
Iβm *just* smart enough to know what a moron I am, and I have always thought that was the sweet spot
