In most places I've seen this happen, the VS is built before the design loop has been proven out, aka, the prototypes were approved on a wing and a prayer for "it'll be fun with polish".

Then VS is treated as a prototype with "final" (not actually final) art.

A playable beautiful corner basically.

I don't know your exact situation, but:

A good mentor can help you put together a plan of attack on how to build the strongest portfolio with the time / resources you have.

It may be to make mods, gamejams, (system) prototypes or tools / plugins.

Depends on which skills you need to show off more.

Parody or not, I understand the thought process.

For me, Mentorship programs like @limitbreak.co.uk is the answer. Giving your time to support others with whatever they want to pursue.

It's not quite "industry experience" for the CV but it can hopefully be as or more effective to lift people up.
