ALIENS!
Of course, what could happen is a massive drive worldwide to reduce reliance on fossils for transport, heating and power, reigning in tech companies (or allowing AI to run and providing UBI), the realisation that providing healthcare is actually better for societies than weapons...
Yeah...Right...
Egad!
I think that the society we know now will disappear. Give it 20 years...
Everything we are doing now is a panic, and even that is being fought by the right.
We should be vastly reducing our reliance on cars. We should be looking far more at reducing meat production (and I say that as a meat lover).
With the rise in AI now as well, which will take many traditional jobs..
Personally I have the nasty suspicion that our society will collapse. We have squandered decades of opportunity.
We should have been building nuclear power, but failed. We should have been putting solar onto every new build and preparing the grid, but we failed.
Do you think having large areas of our planet uninhabitable will sustain a western economy?
What a strange argument against an existential threat.
Truly horrible, and one of only 2 diseases that have been eradicated (the other being rinderpest, a terrible cattle disease with close to 100% mortality). We came close to eradicating polio, but that made a resurgence.
Why are Fujitsu not required to compensate as it was their software errors that caused the issue?
You are very good at capturing Beardsley's style. Lovely.
That's basically what happened to Beardsley while he was illustrating La Morte D'Arthur. He started incredibly strongly, particularly with the Merlin illustration, and was reduced to doing simple block images of flowers after a few months.
I feel for you. There are times when mine run for days, followed by days of exhaustion and "piloting".
Just know that it will end.
Hannah Spencer's maiden speech was wonderful. Human, thoughtful, passionate. I can only imagine what Goodwin's would be and am deeply thankful we don't have to endure it.
Well, they did assume that voting for the Labour party might result in a Labour government.
Food prices are not Labour's fault. The disability stuff absolutely is.
Goodnight. How's the foot?
I love the fact that, much like Joker's smile, the story behind his missing finger changed every time he told it.
Every now and again I remember that both Pterry and Douglas Adams are no longer with us and the world darkens.
Sometimes I merely enjoy Hookland posts. Other times they work into my mind and I want to know the full story.
I think that Ellen's needs to be told.
Can we stop Masterchef judges from saying that lamb is well cooked when it has simply been unwrapped in close proximity to an oven?
So, if, as I suspect, Trump refuses to hold elections, does this mean it is open season for anyone who wants to change the US regime?
Was that not Billy Connolly?
Yep. I wrote a coupke of novels during lockdown and have sold them at events and always come away in profit, which makea me a successful author :-)
If you don't want an assisted death...don't have one.
Shoukd there be legal safeguards against coercion? Of course, but the idea that it then allows creep to allow those with unbearable psychological pain to die is NOT an argument against it.
Rather it is an extension of humanity to allow it.
I saw a little while ago that top-selling authors make, on average, ยฃ12k a year from their writing.
Someone is pocketing a lot of money, but I don't think it is those doing the bulk of the work.
"The proof is in the pudding" is NOT the saying. Similarly, "the customer is always right" misses out the, rather important, first part..."In matters of taste..."
God, people annoy me.
If you can, try and get Hogget.
I am currently reading "Entitled" and it is startling. The arrogance, stupidity, waste, hubris, laziness and incompetance of Andrew and SF is deeply frustrating.
A better advert for the abolition of the monarchy I can't imagine.
Do bear in mind that Peake's prose is astonishing. There will be times when you are screaming "GET ON WITH IT" and then he hits you with a phrase or a paragraph so beautiful you don't know what to do with it.
Take your time and let it wash over you.
Did you go home and then watch Threads just to round the day off?
