Having a look at their docs - they don't specifically say what email backend they use, but the fact they discuss adding your mailgun API keys for the self hosted version implies they probably use their own mailgun account and mailgun is more than capable of handling that level of bulk email
This is such a cool tool, it would be unbelievably useful if this was more common in actor frameworks

I once used outlook's "report phishing" tool to report a phishing email, and that was considered a fail, as under the hood it forwards the email somewhere.
After that I just added a rule to dump all phishing emails from the vendor who sent them into a folder.
