USA qualifies with an Italy win or if Mexico wins by scoring 5+ runs. Mexico now can not win with fewer than 5 runs, so unless the game goes to extra innings Team USA is in.

The world is a shittier place since we lost Marcia suddenly yesterday. She brought so many of us baseball nerds together IRL and fostered a community that started on Twitter ages ago and became a family. Most people I know on here have been touched by her life too. May her memory be a blessing 🖤

I wouldn't have thought there were any circumstances in which a baseball player could refer to me as just "lady" that wouldn't be weird or uncomfortable. But that was actually kind of endearing.

My sole Francisco Cervelli interaction: I was on Pirates coverage in L.A., standing outside the visiting clubhouse with other reporters. As often happens, I was the only woman in the bunch. Cervelli walked out, gave us a nod and a smile, and said, "Gentlemen." Then he noticed me and added, "Lady."
