Reviewing refugee status every 30 months will be a bureaucratic nightmare for the Home Office, already drowning in backlogs.
The Refugee Council estimates that these reviews will cost over Β£1 billion to the taxpayer over the next decade.

Absolutely! And neither is leaving people, who have escaped war and persecution, in a limbo for 20 years, having to reapply every 30 months.
I've written and spoken to my excellent Labour MP, whom I campaigned for, to share my feelings. Make sure you let your MP know.

Iran Crisis: They Wanted Sovereignty. Just Not Like This
If anyone has ruined the special relationship, it's not Starmer- it's Trump
No legal basis. No clear objective. No exit. And much of Britainβs political class spent the week calling Starmer a coward for noticing.
Latest substack from me.

Real war and culture war. New post on my Brexit & Brexitism Blog analyzing the Brexit imprint of domestic responses to the Iran crisis, the hypocrisy & sectarianism of Reform's response to the by-election and the questions it poses for Labour: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2026/03/real...

I think she would be phenomenal. She clearly has a vision and strong, Labour values.

Not only that, I took the Life in the UK test, eight years ago. I passed it, with only one mistake.
Would I pass it again? Who knows, possibly, but I'm not completely sure. Has it made me a better person? I was a reasonably good person then, and I'm still the same.
These are just barriers.

As a member, she certainly speaks for me. The Labour Party I joined, is Stella Creasey's Labour Party. What is happening now, makes me so uncomfortable.

I totally agree with you, what you're saying is the reason I've joined Labour. But now I feel so uncomfortable within.
I wish you were in charge of the Labour Party and the Government.

I may have my frustrations and disappointments about Starmer as a domestic politician, but internationally, I think heβs serious, responsible and trying to do his best for U.K. in unbelievably complex intβl environment, despite treasonous ghouls like Farage doing their best to undermine him.

I've already made my feelings about this abhorrent policy clear but one antidote is to repost this piece I wrote last year about one refugee's story

Thank you for sharing this, it's a beautiful and touching story and I had missed it the first time round.
This policy is absolutely horrendous.

I absolutely agree with Sadiq. It really pains me to see a Labour government embracing this rhetoric and proposing unfair changes to the immigration and asylum seeking policies. As a Labour member, I cannot support this.

Very good to see Stella Creasy openly rebuking Shabana Mahmood's proposals '...because I am true Labour, not Blue Labour'.

I find that policy horrendous and detrimental, and it makes it very difficult to remain a member. But knowing you're part of the Labour movement, together with many other excellent MPs, makes me wish to remain. There needs to be some radical change though!

Plans to make refugee a status of perpetual limbo will do nothing to stop people who need help seeking it nor make it possible for them to rebuild their lives and contribute. I call for humane and effective asylum reforms because I am true Labour, not blue Labour. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Of course. I've posted the email Starmer sent. See what you make of that. I don't like it. And believe me, before I was a member, I paid Β£25 so I could vote for Starmer. And if Labour weren't on a ballot, I would rather vote Lib Dems that Greens.

However, Starmer describes Hannah Spencer, who many, even Labour people, like, as bringing division.

I find you saying I'm pretending, rather unpleasant. I sympathise with some of the points you made, I share your frustration, but I hoped you could see mine too.
I often like your posts and enjoy reading the m, and occasionally replying. I'm surprised by this reaction.

I know. But still, if I were a Labour voter, who had been upset by Labour's position on immigration (apparently it was mentioned a lot at the doorstep) and voted Green, I would not like to be called extremist, divisive etc.
As I pointed out, I want Labour to win, I don't think this helps.

Starmer mentioned extremists on the right and the left. He went on comparing the Greens, and therefore its voters, to Galloway.
I don't like Polansky, but if you want to regain the voters who have voter Greens, this is not helpful.
I want Labour to win, I fear this does not help.
