David O Russell is a legitimately terrible director. So that’s unlikely to be a good opportunity for Bale. Whisper it but perhaps his reputation lies with his ability to lose weight or become supremely muscled, as needed.

For such a prestigious actor he doesn’t have a massive roster of great performances. Ford v Ferrari was a decent film but I don’t remember him being that good. And that was a while ago

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of The Fabelmans (2022) I found The Fabelmans to be really moving well beyond the effect of the obvious emotional beats. I’m not exactly sure why, but I think it has something to do with the sheer immediacy of the film and t...

I love Michelle Williams in this. She’s always good but this is one of her best performances. 5 star film.

I looked up The Jesus Rolls and it is fair to say it doesn’t have a lot of fans!. I actually thought it was a film that has been considered but never completed so it’s interesting that it was filmed back in 2019.

Sometimes I see a picture from the 90 where I am at a pub table with old friends and on the table is an ashtray full of fag end. I both feel both nostalgia and revulsion (but mostly nostalgia because a night in a pub then was so much better than it is now cos I was young and careless of the future)

Haha. Get the flip chart ready for a boutique blu ray overview

(I still find myself referring to dvds as default)

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…Β½ review of Sentimental Value (2025) Despite a few directorial missteps, Β this is a pretty wonderful film. The opening and the closing scenes (of the house and the meta play) are fine but trite: the metaphor of the house as a living thin...

There are faults with the film, moments that are somewhat trite or undisciplined. But I was so taken by the way the film led us to that incredible conversation between the sisters, that I loved it just because it made me feel so deeply. How often does that happen in the cinema?!

Kind of a top quality B movie with some of the best actors of the 70s. Gene Hackman eating guts, some ripe dialogue and some top class action scenes. All set in a diabolical world of cynical abuse. America was always a sinful hell.

Pure brutal 70s cynicism. 1972 and the sixties are a long way away.

I think Mackenzie Crook presents the world as he wants it to be, rather than as it is. Or maybe, rather, as it is at its best and not at its worst. I felt better for having watched it. I understand your opinion though.

Better not to bother with β€˜the discourse’. Things are just good or not good. Mackenzie Crook is a wonderful writer and that’s it.
