Iβll still be covering whatβs released publicly!
I made my best pitch but I guess it wasnβt enough. Itβs tough to break into the established festival/convention group but Iβm going to keep trying.
Sadly I wonβt be covering CinemaCon in person this year. Iβm 0/4 trying to get credentialed for it and Sundance. Oh well. Just means itβs time to work harder and try again next year.
To quote another franchise with a spotty record after being acquired by a massive corporation: "I have a bad feeling about this."
The great thing is that he went uncredited because he knew if his name was attached, people would be expecting a comedy and he didnβt want to undermine the movie. He talks about it in his autobiography - he was critical to getting it made.
Thanks to all the idiots who were screen-recording #Sundance movies and posting clips online. At least two of the biggest award winners have now been pulled from online screening before I could watch & that probably means Sundance will scale back/eliminate online next year. Great job. F**king morons
Thatβs a very low quality version, worse than DVD - at least itβs available in some form, but this shouldnβt be the best there is. It should be officially available somewhere.
So Iβm trying to watch some David Lynch movies - and I just discovered that The Elephant Man does not exist on streaming in the US. I donβt mean for free, I mean at all. Not for rental, not for purchase. 8 Oscar nominations. In IMDBβs Top 250. And itβs just not there. Physical media, folks.
David Lynch was always my go-to when discussing how a filmmaker might not be on your frequency, but can still be vital. His creative voice was clear, distinct & uncompromising. Many of his films may have eluded me, but I always admired his vision, his passion, and his devotion to making HIS movies.
Any friends or friends of friends who live in Hollywood - please pay attention to this new fire and evacuate now! Current evacuation zone is Mulholland Drive to the North, 101 to the east, Laurel Canyon to the west, Hollywood Blvd to the south. Leave now!
It should be noted that the successful Christmas weekend at the box office is likely because...the movies are good. The worst-received one was Mufasa, which still got mediocre reviews. Nosferatu, Sonic 3, A Complete Unknown, The Fire Inside, Babygirl - all well-reviewed. People like good movies.
My favorite part is that in the article, he says critics tried to kill Venom but it was a hit because audiences liked it. Soooooβ¦does the audience listen to critics or not? Audiences only chose to save one bad movie, but liked all of them?
Iβm often asked βhow do studios keep making bad films?β This. This is how. Executives who are totally disconnected from reality, who can only take credit for success and blame failure on someone else. Critics are an easy target. Unfortunately Sonyβs garbage Spider-Man spinoffs are an easier one.
Merry Christmas Eve to all of the off-duty cops who just want to see their wives and expectant father TSA agents who will be thwarting plots and keeping our office parties and airports safe today.
Here are my thoughts on the #Superman trailer. Criticisms I've already seen: Superman's hair shouldn't move when a can hits it and he doesn't displace enough snow at the beginning. I'm just gonna relish in the Superman parts that look great so far.
I made a one frame mistake in my review of Sonic 3. One single frame of a still picture that got left on the timeline. One frame out of a ten minute review. Guess what has generated the biggest volume of comments BY FAR?
They must be working it out - good to know!
Rotten Tomatoes must be glitching or something. The #Sonic3 score still isnβt available despite the embargo being lifted hours ago and my review isnβt visible even though I posted it to the site a while ago. Hmmmβ¦.
Kraven is so bad. I think I might be traumatized. Review tomorrow.
Absolutely not. But itβd be nice to be asked, yβknow?
Apparently an βAriana Grande fanβ has been emailing Critics Choice members and offering bribes to get her nominated for Wicked. This is almost certainly a hoax, but Iβd just like to make clear that I havenβt been contacted. Not sure if I should be flattered or insulted.
I have to vote Paddiator on that one!
Paddington 3 is now opening the same weekend as Captain America: Brave New World in the US. Are we going with #Capington or #Padmerica? I kinda like #Padmerica.
It should also be noted that discs were double sided: widescreen on one side, 4:3 on the other. I spent hours flipping the disc over and playing the same scene to prove to my mom & my friends why widescreen was better.
Quote post with the first DVD you ever bought & show these newbies who theyβre dealing with. #filmsky
One studio (WB) was making DVDs and there were only about 10 titles available, all in cardboard cases. I also bought Twister and The Wizard of Oz. They cost $30 each (in mid-90s money)
