Dear Mr Stride, can you please help me and other UK childrenβs book illustrators? The governing is considering AI policy measures that would make us, as copyright holders, βopt outβ if we donβt want tech companies breaching our copyright to train their systems. The big companies then use our own art in competition against us. The UK ought to be proud of its childrenβs book tradition. Our artwork is exported all over the world, and by giving it away free, weβre ruining the industry. Children will be poorer: thereβll get dumbed-down, mechanical books that have no real person thinking hard about each aspect of them. My colleague Steve Antony described it: βItβs like allowing someone to break into my house and steal my belongings so that they can research, recycle and resell them, unless I stick a label on each and every one of my belongings that says βDO NOT STEALβ, even though the objects are clearly not theirs and clearly within someone elseβs house. That house bring my copyright. Itβs absolutely ridiculous, makes no sense, completely destroys existing copyright laws and insults every single one of us.β Please, could you stand up for us and out copyright? If you could mention our concerns to Feryal Clark, Minister for AI & Digital Governent, and to Chris Bryant, Minister for Creative Industry, Arts & Tourism, Iβd greatly appreciate it. Warmest wishes, Sarah McIntyre, Illustrator & Author, Bovey Tracey

Horrified by news of our friend & fellow bookseller Mahmoud being arrested by Israeli forces alongside his nephew.
A tireless campaigner for the power of literature, Mahmoud was in Edinburgh with us just months ago - please join call for their release!

This is very urgent. The UK government is planning to change copyright law. If you are an artist, author, musician or work in the creative industry please read this.

Thanks⦠it certainly was.
Thanks Ellen!
Thanks Dapo, that really means a lot!! βΊοΈ
Thank you!
I illustrated in a way I havenβt beforeβ¦ building up lots of cross-hatching and detailβ¦ finding a new visual language that I hope spans the many worlds Michael conjures up.

Last year I illustrated a wonderful book of 12 long-ish poems by @michaelrosenyes.bsky.social, βOut of this Worldβ.
The poems are profound, thought-provoking and funny - a dream of a job for me to illustrate.
Of course, I fully recommend it! @harpercollins.bsky.social

Iβve paused Twitter (not deactivated, so no one can take my name). Iβll be intermittently here and over at Instagram on ed_vere@instagram.com
Thatβs great to hear, thank you! And a big hello to your three year old too.
Thanks Ian, and to you and yours!
Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year!

Thank you so much, Simon - Iβm so happy Gabrielβs story resonates with you - I loved making this bookβ¦ evoking a Cornwall that used to be, and putting Gabriel front and centre.

It is a truly lovely story of resolve, dreams and courage. Its Cornish setting is vivid and beautiful and the story is full of joy and warmth. A true hug of a book. #PicturebookPage

Considering everything that's going on in the world, why should you bother learning to draw hands a bit better?

Le sketching in wonderful Dieppe.
A great place for people watching in bars⦠one of the best open-air food markets in France and a pair of churches with excellent gargoyles. Plus best way to get to France - Newhaven to Dieppe ferry. Tres bon.
My map of children's independent bookshops is updated regularly. Most provide an online service and they're all run by people who can make well-informed book recommendations. Make sure you support your local one if you want to keep it. Any missing, please let me know. padlet.com/Jon_Biddle/r...
Coastal scene, with elephant.
Iβm biased because Chris is a friendβ¦ BUTβ¦ this book is astonishing. An absolute masterpiece. A fascinating exploration into what it is to be human, what it is to be creative, how we communicate and how we develop technologies from stone axes to AIβ¦ and beyond.
Political and thought-provoking.
