I think people are shifting away from the initial worry and are now taking a more measured approach - considering all of this potential we have to support our students, while also being mindful of the risks involved.
Thanks Tom!
Yes, this.
I'm over here excited about going to hot pot tonight.
Sorry I was late to the meeting. My dog needed me to rub her belly and say WHO'S A GOOD GIRL over and over again.
I forgot to tell y'all that our Higher Ed AI Landscape survey had over 900 respondents from more than 600 institutions. Less than two weeks until the report comes out! ๐ฅณ
"Sit still without interruptions for 4 hours" - all words I know, but the order is confusing me.
I just used the phrase "regroup and circle back," and I have feelings about it.
I think you're in good company. ๐คฃ
I don't know who needs to hear this, but hey, wouldn't it be fun to update your headshot this year?
Our AI Landscape research report is off to the editor today! Should be about two weeks before I get to share with all of you. I can't wait to see what you think!
It's an "I finally got this headset to work so I'm never turning it off again" sort of day.
It's good to get a head start on the inevitable.
My toxic trait is assuming my soup is goldilocks temp before putting the spoon in my mouth.
Something I find interesting is how much discourse there is related to students plagiarizing with gen AI... But then there is this uptick in researchers using it to plagiarize, and you never hear about that except in quiet spaces.
ASU announced today it is the first higher ed institution to collaborate with Open AI. news.asu.edu/20240118-uni...
Not trying to brag or anything, but I did just unpin like 4 emails.
My evening neighborhood walk was a chilly 70ish degrees last night. I suffer.
I've been consumed with analyzing data from the first ever EDUCAUSE AI Landscape Study. I can't wait for y'all to read the report. @educause.bsky.social
So many emails and meetings exhorting, demanding, begging us to recruit more international students, and not one single senior management figure has spoken up to acknowledge that the problem is not *us* it is a deliberate political tactic attacking us from outside. Six figure leadership, huh.
I've got to start posting here more... The other place is feeling like an old abandoned warehouse.
Thanks! We're doing the same session at OLC Accelerate next week if you plan to attend. Also, we're going to continue the conversation with the Research Impact Community Group. If you're interested, you can join the group here: bit.ly/46CNHzF
I hope you can join me and OLC colleagues to discuss building bridges between siloed researchers, practitioners, designers, and decision makers. 10/19 11AM ET bit.ly/3S10Xtu
Seeing y'all at #EDU23 last week was invigorating. Hoping to connect with more of y'all here.
I hope you can join us! "Research-informed practice is a critical element of higher education, but building bridges between siloed researchers, practitioners, designers, and decision makers is a persistent challenge."

The last few days before the annual conference always feel like the calm before the storm.
Do any of you have committees or working groups at your institution reviewing policies that may act as barriers to student success? I also think a mechanism for students to alert us to such policies would be helpful.
