It's an early Wednesday evening in March 2026. The new Swell Maps album was dropped off by the postman less than two hours ago. Side one is playing at the very moment I'm glide-typing this paragraph.
@newaveclub
I'm a new-wave person much like yourself. Nearly all 327 Mawkish Twaddles I did on the radio in Frisco (2017-24) are at http://mixcloud.com/Bob_N/. ICYI, Mawkish Twaddle is back: live on Mixcloud whenever I feel like it. See above link for recordings.

Shadowplay created by the sun and a clerestory window on this second morning of daylight savin' time (elision inspiration from one Bazza Keefer).
My hairdresser and friend opened her business last week. Tonight it burned to the ground. This is devastating.
Iβve set up a fundraiser. If you havenβt done anything for international womenβs day yet, hereβs a chance to support a women-run business in need: www.paypal.com/pools/c/9nhn...
Here we are on the afternoon of the day that all the clocks returned to dog-approved status, listening to this recently unearthed Dennis Bovell-produced set of 154-era Wire tracks.
Or maybe it's the new EXEK LP. They've been heading steadily in this direction for some time now. I like it.
March 5 again already? Surely no one else here on BS is posting this particular J. Lynne-penned track today.
Youβre so out of touch, Gray Lady. The company that pulled the plug on iPods a few years back still makes a device that serves the same purpose. What is it called? Oh, right β iPhone. Mine currently holds 147,862 songs, only 787 of which are by The Fall.
Did I mention that "Clear Pools," on side two, is nearly 20 minutes long? Yes, that's less than half the length of "The Hermit," the 41-minute leadoff cut from Richard's 2022 release The Ruby Cord. But still.
We're listening now to the newly issued fifth album from Hen Ogledd, the Newcastle-based combo which includes Richard Dawson. This record seems even better than the last, 2020's Free Humans, which I quite fancied. Now if only US radio DJs would learn to pronounce Ogledd correctly.
We're listening now to one of my best finds at Amoeba SF the other day: the top-notch first LP (2015) from C Duncan. π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ For Foxy, the sounds call for some inspired rug-scratching.
Was it 10 years ago last night that I saw Prince at the Paramount in Oakland? It feels like 20.
Imagine a parallel universe where Bob Marley and Neil Sedaka trade musical paths.
In case you've never heard -- or seen! -- it.

RIP Neil. I discovered his unlikely 1965 foray into ska just a few days ago.
They gave us a new song toward the end of the set (I wouldn't have known that had Eleanor not said, "This is a new song."). I hope there's a new studio LP at some point. It's been, what, 17 years, not including that single six years ago?
Recurring thoughts throughout the night: They've still got it. Are they doing medleys of Blueberry Boat snippets or do I just not remember the songs very well? The pared-down setup is helping me to appreciate their unique sound, like a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta on acid, even more.
The Blueberry Boat album was the focus of the hour-and-fifteen-minute set. There was no band, only Matthew's constant piano and the ageless voice of Eleanor (as on record, Matthew sang every once in a while).
Look who's back! Yes, the Fiery Friedbergers themselves, in their first Bay Area appearance for nearly 15 years. Last night's show at the Chapel was my first time seeing them since a Bottom of the Hill performance in October 2004.
Thursday afternoon in the burg I used to call home.
Bobby Brainworm is bringing us more insects -- and more glyphosate! MAHAHA!
Just now at the supermarket. I've never seen such a warning before. Something to do with our recently gutted FDA?
Photographs taken toward the end of this morning's just-completed walk downtown.
Last night I dreamed that I saw an artist named Billy Kreskin on some late-night music show. He performed a song called "It Will Go Round In Circles."
I know the title of one Metallica song*, which is one more than the number of Metallica songs that I actually know.
* I could change that right now but have no desire to do so.

A dog just getting used to crunchy snow.
