Pleased to share my new African Security article: Parallels between vigilantes and Boko Haram in the Lake Chad Basin. Here I argue both are home-grown products of state weakness, sharing social worlds which explains vigilante's effectiveness and associated risks.

“These findings follow previous research which concluded that the more people learn about how AI works, the less they trust it. The opposite was also true — AI’s biggest fanboys tended to be those who understood the least about the tech.”

A Hidden Story in African Linguistics & History
In 1904, two scholars met at Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo:
Al-Hajj Musa, a Kanuri scholar from Borno and Rudolf Prietze, a German linguist.
They collaborated for 10 years, producing hundreds of pages in Kanuri.
