FontLab Tip: Larger Guides
Guides can have a width. Select the guide and set its width in Property bar (1) or using the Guide panel (2). This kind of guide is very useful to mark overshoot areas (3) and also to indicate the position and size of some diacritics (4).
TIL that Will Smith’s Men in Black song is just a rip-off of Patrice Rushen’s 1982 single “Forget Me Nots” and I dig everything about the original.

This 1888 oil painting has phone snapshot vibes.
“(Infanteriets) Vagtparade” (“Changing of the Guard”) by Danish painter and illustrator Erik Ludvig Henningsen (1855—1930).
Another detail: a small woman and a tree with a snake (Eve), followed by "ngelium". This reads as "Evangelium".
And what about this pun: "Evangelium", made of an image of the biblical "Eva" and a few letters. Halleluja.
I just bought a CD-ROM from 2002. The flash-based launcher still starts! But, more importantly: the actual data is stored in plain formats (PDF, jpg …) and accessible in structured folders. I can use it as I see fit. It’s so nice that something old just works without hacks and kludges for a change.
Wow, een rijdende lectuurwinkel in Amsterdam in de seventies.
We moeten terug!
That was a few years ago, though. I’m still mildly indignant about them badmouthing cozy Hebden Bridge.

After inadvertently opening the InDesign help for the bazillionth time, I finally removed the help shortcut from the [F1] key and assigned it the same functions as [ESC] instead.
Peace of mind!
Should’ve done this ages ago.
A collection of every news article starting with the words “The internet”. Is that a thing?
Case in point: “Twilio” is a real thing, apparently.
Henry Sotheran Ltd (@Sotherans) on twitter: "ART COLLECTORS: my vault is hermetically sealed COMIC COLLECTORS: everything is ordered by issue and in plastic TOY COLLECTORS: I've never even opened this box BOOK COLLECTORS: (erupts from a pile of books) I have no idea what I was looking for when I started"
Learning to write in script again feels recursive.
Ha, this would be the “adult” version.
I strongly suspect that this is a joke. But it tells a lot about the state of our industry that you can’t be sure because these might as well be perfectly realistic names of software or companies.
Either that, or all of this is real and I’m officially and immensely out of the loop.

Never seen so many strange, infantile words in a job posting (and I don’t even know what they mean).
I had to check twice to realize he’s not texting on his phone in this image.
Uhm, is “Noodles” bad? Asking for a friend who calls one of their dogs Noodles most of the time.
Weird to see a random Apple-style UI toggle haphazardly placed on a sci-fi mag cover from the 1970s.
Also, first time I’ve ever seen a UI toggle tilted.
French open plan modernist living room interior decorated in earth tones with modular seating, built-in cabinetry, and a central fireplace. The photo is from 1971, but the space was designed in 1968 and features Poul Kjaerholm PK22 chairs and an Eero Saarinen Tulip Armchair. Wicked fonts!
What’s with the faces and lettering? Looks like AI slop.

Marsh’s Library in Dublin had a better idea - people were locked in cages to read books.

American Knickerbockers; c. 1925, from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Gift of the Brooklyn Museum, 2009; Gift of Mrs. Wesley Wallace Tillotson, 1956 From https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Knickerbockers_MET_56.55.10_CP4.jpg
I’d totally wear these 1925 knickerbockers. Great fabric, favorable shape, stylish, good for summer (barefoot at the beach) and winter (with combat boots). And they look comfy, too.
The world was still sepia in 1986? I thought they’d invented color by the 1970s.
