Furthermore, we show a new role for M18BP1 as a condensin II loop stabiliser! Condensin II alone has a short loop lifetime, but when bound by M18BP1, loops are super stable. This is due to a basic region of M18BP1 contributing to DNA binding and loop anchoring!
Iβm very pleased to share our work looking at what controls condensin II cell-cycle dependant activity; a great collaboration with @eugenekimlab.bsky.social, @damlatetiker.bsky.social, Kyle Muir and Kumiko Samejima

Great collaborative work with @eecutts.bsky.social & Kyle Muir!
Our work nicely complements the recent work from Vanniniβs lab (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...).
How is Condensin II activated during mitosis? π§¬
@damlatetiker.bsky.social Samejima et al. uncover how Condensin II autoinhibition is relieved by the mitotic activator M18BP1, and reveal that M18BP1 also forms a composite DNA anchor with the NCAPG2βNCAPH2 subcomplex to stabilize DNA loops in vitro.
Our work on SMC Wadjet is finally out! Congrats to all co-authors!
