You need to have signs up for CCTV but no one is making these arseholes wear bells in public and I want to know why.

GFY is three.
This has been many years in the making. We wanted to do it rightโnot simply get it done.
Our goal was to contribute, however modestly, to an academia that genuinely strives for inclusivity.
May the AWoPโsmall as the step may beโhelp move academia toward greater inclusion. ๐ค๐ซ๐๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธโโ๏ธโฟ๐ฆฎ๐
The autistic spectrum isn't linear from high to low (or from neurotypical to neurodivergent - no we NOT all on the spectrum) - its a range of characteristics manifesting in different ways
Any experts or specialists in UN law? Please DM for something I am writing on Iran.
Legit the further I get into this round of marking, the angrier I get about AI. Give me any level of human mistakes over this.
'If you live... in a council flat.. by a river... but are not blind... WHAT?? WHAT?!!'
Reading this feels like that scene where Bernard Black is doing his taxes.
Perennial Irish sentiment, insert gender as applicable:
I am still thinking about this.
I don't like marking. You don't like marking. No-one likes marking. The only good bit of marking is seeing a student do their best work. Now we don't even get that without worrying that we're marking something written by the predictive text machine. I HATE IT.
100%. It's awful.
I'm one of many professors quoted in this report from Alice Speri. I really appreciate The Guardian taking an angle which has basically eluded every other major outlet.
As an expert on the jury system, I am sceptical about this, and think it will reduce the system's legitimacy.
As a minoritised victim of crime, I would always trust a jury over a judge when it comes to understanding my life and the circumstances in which I have, e.g., been beaten in the street.
My extra radical far loony left position is that no one should ever be allowed to make a profit from academic publishing. It is a public good. See also: education, healthcare (on a good day, public transportโฆ)
Gathering my writing currently published in one place, to pin.
This is a few years old & I think, after reading more transfeminine readings and transfeminist critiques, I definitely would write it a bit differently
thanks to @wwacomics.bsky.social & @dogunderwater.bsky.social's guidance on this
Awesome longer thing on similar themes currently under review at a journal! But for now, if you haven't read our open access piece about FWS and community, why not do so?
Yeah, we got a couple of probably-AI Xmas cards last year and it made me sad. I want people to be writers and artists, not ask the computer to do it for them.
I've saved this one alongside the 'Judith Butler thinks you're overreacting' image for Reasons.
Oh my god! I love her (and Nigel). ๐ง
Right click save!!
I want my penguin Companion.
I want to delight in my students' writing, not pull it to bits for evidence of bleep bloop interference.
Not a new observation, but I hate the added layer of suspicion that AI has lent to marking. I see a nice flourish in a piece of student writing and I no longer first think 'ooh, lovely rhetoric,' I think 'did a robot write this?' and I HATE that.
Oof. I am really feeling the old Dread today.
Yesterday the NHS banned all under 18 prescriptions of HRT for trans young people.
This ban was justified by 10 new studies that largely stated NO EVIDENCE for under 18s HRT exists.
The study underpinning this played one particular trick.
Let's briefly look at how the NHS rigged the game 1/5
This is a great post from Rob.
Whatโs your sign?
Yes! It's a cracker.
The post's author is @patthomson.bsky.social, btw. ^
"Our goal as academic writers is not to make the writing feel comfortable. Itโs to make the discomfort feel less catastrophic."
I found this post excellent.
