I do also know college isn’t for everyone, trades are more important than ever and should also be considered “higher ed” imo, I just believe learning should be accessible to anyone who wants it.

I got an MA and I am so thankful for the experience (and would absolutely do it again, I learned SO much) but when I tell you I am DROWNING in student loans. The loan process is predatory, but getting an education shouldn’t be this expensive to begin with.

I would’ve gone to school in some capacity forever if it didn’t cost the price of one human soul to do so. Literally saw a MA program last week and rushed to check details… 100k a year for full time students, 70k part time.

The joy of learning is priceless, knowledge shouldn’t be so expensive.

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

And worse yet, this is fairly wide spread across most of (what I would call) meaningful jobs and industries. They don’t call it the student loan crisis for nothing. It’s upsetting, I mourn for the generations to come bc if it’s this bad now? Idk what they’ll do.

I feel this on a molecular level.

Feeling like an apt metaphor for the moment we are living in collectively (and personally for myself) I added the quip “the old world is dying;; the new world struggles to be born” when I shared it on IG and this is is the only photo I have that shows the roots 😭

I spotted the roots wandering when I got it last winter—which isn’t the time to repot—so I put a little dirt in a bigger pot to cover the wanderers and just wintered it double potted 🌱 it worked, perhaps too well lol

Monstera in a black pot, a thick knot of roots have grown out the bottom of the pot begging to be released from the confines of a life that no longer serves it. Mother Nature can be seen slowly awakening in the background from the brown grass to the new green growth. (Don’t worry, this baby is on the way to a new pot, too).
