Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds Researchers identify sharp rise to about 0.35C every decade, after excluding natural fluctuations such as El Niño

Global heating has accelerated from a steady rate of less than 0.2C/decade between 1970-2015 to ~0.35C/decade over the past 10 years. The rate is higher than scientists have seen since they started taking the Earth’s temperature in 1880. @rahmstorf.bsky.social

The sea is higher than we thought and millions more are at risk, study finds A new study in the journal Nature says most sea level rise research may have underestimated coastal water heights by an average of 1 foot or about 30 centimeters.

“You have a lot of people here for whom the risk of extreme flooding is much higher than people thought’' - @alevermann.bsky.social comments on a new study showing that baseline calculations for coastal water levels have been underestimated in a majority of studies.

I heard an interesting anecdote about TEEs from some folks in fintech. They were trying to convince regulators that TEEs aren’t just “computers under their control”, so they tried to get cloud providers to certify that they would never hand over the keys to a client. Providers could not do this.

Side-by-side images of the same nebula show how differently it appears in near-infrared, on the left, versus mid-infrared light, on the right. The left image is labeled NIRCam and the right is labeled MIRI. In the near-infrared, the nebula’s outer bubble has a white edge and its inner clouds are orange, with a distinct dark lane cutting vertically through the centre. Stars and background galaxies appear around the nebula and through the outer bubble. In the mid-infrared, the outer bubble has a bluish tint and there is more material in the inner clouds, which are coloured off-white. The vertical dark lane is still present but more interrupted and covered by the clouds. Material appears to be erupting out the top of the nebula, and this effect is mirrored to a lesser degree at the bottom, opposite end.
