Ever wonder if compostable plastics are worth working on? If you designed a better material, what does it take for approval? UCB+MITRE+JBEI joined forces to outline everything you need to know. Fun fact: I did a FOIA request as part of our research. #openaccess authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S...
Had a great time speaking with students in @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social CEE! The grad students at Berkeley are truly second to none.
Looking to do a PhD? Check out this great opportunity to work w/ my colleague @joesagues.bsky.social
In the last few weeks my 9 y/o 1) got a land line to start calling her friends, 2) completed her first gig as a magician at a kindergartner's bday party. If you're worried that you'll miss how cute your kid is as a baby, don't worry. This is just a whole different level.
Have you ever wished you could assemble lots of TEAs quickly on a tech? Understand where the assumptions differed? Maybe even use them to generate a custom design for your needs drawing on prior analyses? This is what we are working on: projectpisces.org and we need YOU. Reach out to get involved.
The UC Berkeley folks working on heavy duty freight in my group did some incredible work that was published in 2025. They've not gotten the fanfare they deserve, but here they are โฅ๏ธ www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... and www.nature.com/articles/s41... and www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Awesome! We are very happy to get feedback or feature requests ๐
We โฅ๏ธ our collaborators at @uwescience.bsky.social! Thank you for @schmidtsciences.bsky.social for supporting the partnership. Thanks to them, the calbioscape.org tool is lightening fast and primed for impact ๐ escience.washington.edu/ca-biositing...
This study was a long time in the making and I'm so, so proud of Jason for pushing it to the finish line. Huge undertaking and a massive accomplishment. Per-mile private and external costs and benefits of electric heavy-duty trucks: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Cool I guess this is the AI future we were promised?
@schmidtsciences.bsky.social awarded us access to scientific computing support from @uwescience.bsky.social & it has been a game changer. calbioscape.org is fast & allows for high-res feedstock filtering by composition and seasonality. Thank you, team! ๐ escience.washington.edu/ca-biositing...
As we coast into the Thanksgiving holiday, I'm taking time to appreciate just how incredible my group members (past and present). Fundraising can be a struggle, especially now, but it's so worth it when I look around and see what they're accomplishing โฅ๏ธ Grateful for them & our awesome collaborators
What a fun (and well-attended!) @rff.org webinar. People want transparency, above all else when it comes to this kind of modeling. Also got to give a shoutout to @jeffinerca.bsky.social and Allegra Mayer's "rent vs. buy" framing for C storage youtu.be/jBblJqPoiVk?...
So much fun to see my postdocs present their work. Maryam has been digging into potential uses for almond orchard and processor residues in CA. Also, check out our under-development webtool for assessing residue availability! calbioscape.org
Emeryville is so delightful in the fall
AI integration sounds great but how about we fix app interfaces so I don't have to scroll through every single month between now and the day I was born in 1985 just to finish ordering a takeout sandwich?
Ha, I only wish I was this good!
Youngest child working on securing his good standing early in the game.
A little magnitude 3.1 "teaser" this morning before our Great ShakeOut drill at 10:16am!
Got a request for guidance on doing a TEA for something they plan to make via contract manufacturing. I believe the answer is to just....get a quote(?)
We've had a blustery October but yesterday the bay had a kind of glassy look to it. I really never get tired of the views, in part because they're always a little different.
Awesome new job available at CARB on methane data management. Applications accepted until Oct 27. calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/...
Got vaccinated for flu and COVID at work today and, out of habit, did not actually look at the shots. So it was a delightful surprise to find these sweet Garfield bandaids on both arms hours later.
Heck of an earthquake last night. Short but the shaking was no joke. It woke all of us up. What is it about this time of year?!
This project has been so cool. Real powerhouse team ๐
Thanks to @berkeleylab.lbl.gov for the commitment to outreach. It is always one of my kids' favorite spots on the Solano Stroll. Educating the next generation of scientists ๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐งโ๐ฌ
