Time to change up the picture book bookshelf for the next month!
Planning dinner for friends staying this weekend and you can bet Iβm going to be super unseasonal and make hot cross bun bread and butter pudding.
Iβll add a sprig of holly or something.
They are both thrilled thinking of how excited their friend must be at a tidy garden. Itβs just so lovely as the joy doesnβt come from receiving a gift, or a tidy lawn. Itβs from having done something for a friend, and secretly, so no thanks is ever expected (luckily!). I love Frog and Toad so much
Frog and Toad really are the list gentle stories. In The Surprise, Frog and Toad sneak around to each otherβs houses to clean up the leave on their friendβs lawn. Both sneak back very happily, but a wind blows up and scatter the leaves. They both get home to their seemingly untouched gardens BUT
The magic was just not there in the same way :(

Not to make all my Bluesky content 100% Paddington but I am wildly excited to go and see Paddington in Peru tonight. I would like to feel better about the world and I think Olivia Coleman as a wild nun might be just the tonic.

I am always looking for small, easy-to-commute-with books. Vinted has a been a gold mine for some really special older books!
Look at this vintage Paddington from 1988 - so old they donβt even bother to list the illustrator in the copyright info. Itβs David McKee!
