This is the coolest thing I've seen today.

Yeah, you can see them sneering and laughing at all the "DEI" stuff they killed. They fully understood what they were doing and enjoyed it. Even in the clips you can see them trying not to smirk.

Longsnappers have the most time to listen to Rogan.

AIPAC doing this is obviously super shady, to divide progressives (Biss also being progressive notwithstanding) but it doubly sucks because now half the idiots on this site think Bushra, a progressive Muslim with a platform virtually indistinguishable from Kat, is an Israeli agent.

On further reflection the funniest part is clearly the capitalized "War Ships"

"Artificial constraint" is a telling phrase here, too. Hegseth the other day said the Strait would be open except for what Iran was doing. They think it is fundamentally unfair for Iran to have any leverage.

Please, Mr. Uterus was my father. Call me Robert Uterus.

I read this as "Robert Uterus has arrived" and was very confused but loved it nevertheless. On seeing the intended way also love it.

Yes, but thank you!!

All of these rocks have gone through millions of years of erosion, of endless winds buffering them away, without a single person witnessing it it. This is happening everywhere in the universe. How small are we?

We also just took a picture of them. How amazing is that?

Read this as "region destabilization/destruction" but I think that works too

I knew it existed from commercials during sports, but couldn't tell you in a million years it was a Young Sheldon spinoff. The people at CBS were clearly (and probably rightfully) confident that most CBS viewers would know what it was.

This is called kidnapping and it’s a crime. Abolish ICE

Sorry, I've been assured there is only one progressive candidate in our district and the rest are corporate stooges.

Why Criticism Continues to Matter: Book Reviews and Our Literary Community - Chicago Review of Books My neighborhood in Chicago has a delightfully high density of Little Free Libraries. Inside one of these late last year, I stumbled upon a reissue of Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence P...

This piece in @chicagorevbooks.bsky.social by @kathleenmrooney.bsky.social (first delivered at an AWP panel) literally gave me chills. I wanted to stand and cheer and high-five every person doing the hard work of thinking about books in the right ways.

I genuinely don't like writing about books I don't enjoy. What's the point? To show how I'm better than someone who poured their heart into something? Unless a book is actively harmful, of course. But if it just doesn't click with me, move on and share something I love.

Not the point, but Pulp Fiction is less a "cult film" and more a "huge, culture-defining hit"

The weirdest part of this thread is that until the eponymous movie changed it, it was spelled "Hanibelle" and everyone knew it.

They think so, but like, they're not fans of it! Nearly all their movies are what happens when people are dumb and venal and greedy.

Dividing Lines: The People That Make a City The Plan of Chicago: A City in Stories Barry Pearce, Cornerstone Press Β  Many years ago, at a bar on Chicago’s northwest side, a deeply white area which to outsiders would seem entirely homoge…

I reviewed @barrypearce.bsky.social beautiful, shattering story collection, The Plan of Chicago, for Great Lakes Review. There's Algren, for sure, but to me the closest antecedent is Farrell. Which is as high a praise as there is.

This kind of stuff is even more exciting, I think, than special elections. It's awesome when an R goes down hard, but for people to be paying enough attention to shitty Dems who accommodate the fash demonstrates anger even more clearly.

- Prisons are experimenting on trans prisoners to "cure" them
- Kansas revoked every trans Kansan's driver's license
- Scouts agreed to ban trans kids

- SCOTUS declared it legal to out trans kids to abusive parents

Yeah, the sheer bloody cynicism of even giving lip service to liberation, encouraging them to rise up, when the "plan" (such as it was) was just to replace one cruel leader with another.
