My interest in the WBC, aside from Canadaβs games, has been very limited. But Good Lord, Paul Skenes against that Dominican lineup? Sign me up.

Making the Americans sweat is its own little victory.
Thatβll play, Adam Macko.
So long as it brings down the price of eggs.
Among the many things wrong with American culture is how they bring the entire weight of 400 million peopleβs unrealistic expectations down onto one person until theyβre crushed. Youβre either a god among men or an unpatriotic loser, no in-between. The pathology of insatiable ambition.
You wouldn't think a country could find a new way to become deeply unlikeable every day. And yet.
He looked good. Donβt know if itβs enough to keep him on the roster all season, but I can see why they grabbed him.
I am all in on Addison Barger.

Itβd be a real shame if that column were made available to non-subscribers. That would mean anybody could read it.
Say what you will about Cathal Kelly, he makes good enemies.
The rest of Canada giving Toronto grief is our other national pastime. Itβs one of the few things we can all agree on.
Surgery remains an option.

The more appropriate comp right now for Ricky Tiedemann isn't Nate Pearson, it's Dustin McGowan. Neither is good, mind you.

Ok, his 2024 season had plenty of upside: baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-playe...
Donβt know why, but Loperfido never seemed to win the Blue Jaysβ confidence as a regular. (The .431 BABIP last season maybe was a factor.) Santanderβs injury forced this trade. But I donβt see Sanchez as much of an upgrade. Iβm having trouble seeing the upside here.
Yeah, there was a non-zero chance that a healthy Santander would still be a bust. Still, his track record of production and durability(!) his last three years in Baltimore made me think 2025 was a blip. Instead, that shoulder injury is now looking like a career-ender. Just a lousy turn of events.
They are going to miss Bichette way more than they expect.
This puts a ton of pressure on Okamoto. Heβs now the only legitimate power bat in that lineup and the closest Vlad will come to having protection behind him. This is going to be a thin lineup and if they canβt string together lots of baserunners again like last year, they could be in real trouble.
I figured Santander had a good shot at a bounce-back season. But now, set to miss most of two consecutive years, itβs reasonable to wonder if heβll ever play effectively again. A borderline contract when it was signed, now itβs a full-bore disaster. Good thing itβs not my money.
Joey Loperfido, itβs now or never.
Well, that was an excruciating start to the Blue Jays season.
I need a trigger warning on that photo.
If Buck Martinez is not added to the #BlueJays' Level of Excellence, I'll climb up there and paint it on myself.
I remember saying, when Trump's Cabinet was first sworn in, that nobody concerned me more than RFK Jr. as Director of Health/Human Services and Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence. By this time next week, we'll likely have learned in detail about why the second was true.
That's why the good Lord gave us the Colorado Rockies.
There are overpays, and then thereβs 3/$115M for Framber Valdez.
You beat me to it!
