For those going home to visit family this weekend:
• Samsung calls it Auto Motion Plus
• LG calls it TruMotion
• Sony calls it Motionflow
• Roku calls it Action Smoothing
• Google TV calls it Motion Enhancement
• Vizio calls it Smooth Motion Effect.
If I have any complaint, it’s that the film teases this very sweet chemistry/flirtation/vibe with Francesca Scorsese and Elsie Fisher and then they just disappear and with the focus being the family, I wish we could’ve gotten just one more scene to wrap that up. But not a dealbreaker! Great film!
I really loved Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point, it felt so real and while having “no story” or whatever I felt like I intimately knew every person there. Maria Dizzia has officially become a name where, no matter what, I know I’ll have something good to look for in the film. The cut with her…god.
Memoir of a Snail was so shockingly good. I'd heard little about it but decided to check it out anyway and my god, it absolutely DESTROYED me. Aching and melancholic but it felt of a piece with I Saw the TV Glow (my favorite film of the year so far)--it's never too late to live.
One of my hottest takes is that Stevie Wonder, who’s not exactly lacking in accolades, deserves to have the widespread acclaim, reverence, and obsession that folks give The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
Always good to compare a your plan to the Manhattan Project, a famously good event that had no tentacles of depression, death or destruction still happening decades out
NW: Bottle Rocket
(There’s no way I finish this tonight but the vibes are good for bedtime)
Past Lives fucked my shit UP…a movie I can’t wait to see and sob to again, also maybe the sexiest cast of any movie thus far this year???
Bluesky currently has the vibe of a charming Parisian cafe circa early 1940. The Nazis are probably showing up sooner or later but in the meantime, fuck it, let’s have another Pernod.
I haven’t seen a ton of stuff from this year, but from what I have, here’s my top 10:
How to Blow Up a Pipeline
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
Air
Sanctuary
Rye Lane
Scream VI
Beau is Afraid
Infinity Pool
You Hurt My Feelings
Creed III
God, there being this few people on here is genuinely relaxing, fantastic times
Iconic fireworks shot from Blow Out
Me and my dog every July 4th
