An image of the user's fan digimon Plainsdramon. It resembles a mix between a thorny devil and a dragon, with the wings emerging from where a thorny devil's bulbous neck spikes would be, having very large shoulders. Most of its body is covered in large, beige hexagonal scales, with the lower jaw, bottom of neck, chest, stomach and shoulders being exposed brown skin. Its wings fade to a light blue and have two red claws with beige ridged scales on the outermost edge. It has three red claws on each front foot and two on the back, along with four red spikes on its chest and stomach, seven on the tail and two short brown horns tipped in red on the forehead. Its upper jaw and face is mostly covered in a white bone mask, with one horn on the nose and four pointed back, along with three pairs of outer fangs and two 'beak' points at the front. The eyes are blue and slit-pupilled.

A fan digimon resembling a cyborg Therizinosaurus. It is mainly red, with orange stripes and orange-to-yellow gradiented feathers on the head and tail. Its head, hands and chest are playted in silver metal, with all three fingers and the thumbs of its hands being knife blades and a glowing green core in the chest. Cables run from the chest down the sides of the stomach, as well as from the shoulders to its arm armour.. It has metal plugs on its back, and belts around its biceps. The face is beaked with six metal fangs on the upper jaw (three either side) and a pointed chin. Its eyes are green.

A mechanised Dinosaur Digimon with a ferocious personality. The chest core powers it, and glows when it is angry. It is entirely mechanical, granting it great strength but making it incredibly heavy.

Step 2: On a clipping mask layer, add a subtle gradient in a darker orange color. Step 3: On a clipping mask layer set to multiply and ~80% opacity, use a hard brush to block in the shading color. Use a saturated dark red to accentuate the colors in the shadows. Step 4: Using a combination of the blend tool (NOT the blur tool), layer brush strokes, and the eraser, soften some of the edges of the shading layer and add little details such as scratches and texture.

Add more scratches, deepen the color contrast, airbrush different colors on overlay or hard light, and recolor the lineart. And you're done!

Tutorial for drawing scales on a creature leg, using a photo of Mizutsune as reference. Step 1: Start with cleaned lineart. Step 2: stencil in guidelines for the rows of scales in a different color. Step 3: Draw lines perpendicular to the guidelines, spacing them roughly the same distance apart. Keep in mind the curvature of the body. Step 4: Finish drawing the pointed edges of the first row of scales. Step 5: Using the corners from the first row of scales, draw more parallel lines to start the next row of scales. Step 6: Add extra line weight to visually separate the rows of scales.

I'm in pain from drawing scales so I threw together this quick tutorial in case someone else was in the same boat. 🥲 Guidelines can help you keep your scales organized!
