Congratulations. Absolutely huge.
Day 3 of GDC. Let's go!
Omw in now.
Every game that is released right now is a small miracle. I don't care if it's a hit or a flop.
I wish I could like this post multiple times.
Day 2. LFG!
What's with the fences and gates?
Heroes and Villains,

In between the lines below, we're also digging into:
- How to protect yourself and your work in revshare/volunteer studios
- What the next decade of game dev studios and pubs even look like for working devs
- How to archive and allow our work to live on beyond servers and obsolete hardware
It's a good reminder that representation matters in our industry. This is particularly true after a couple years of pretty brutal layoffs that disproportionately impact marginalized folks.

Looking forward to catching up on some good ole grump time again.

Let's get into it:
Ba, mock reviews. Silly autocorrect.
Mock interviews are a critical action necessary to get external validation to test your assumptions.
Way too many game teams with huge budgets are skipping these types of extra eyes till it's way too late to make changes...and that's a recipe for failure and layoffs.
PD did it - and it shows.

With GDC coming up, I was looking forward to just having a casual week of catching up with old friends and colleagues.
But now I'm booking up my time VERY quickly between Daybreak duties, Game Industry Coffee Chat, a new game studio I've been advising, and my new YouTube channel meetup.
The latest Ball report is trying to build a narrative out of joining numbers together with duct tape. Crypto trading isn't "beating games in the attention economy". I think the main reason for this type of narrative to exist is to act as self-serving rationalization for floundering execs.
The start of a new series where I talk about game production and misc industry junk while showing off our game Spirit Crossing!

It's far from over...but it's a good start.

โIn plain language, an AI attempted to bully its way into your software by attacking my reputation. I donโt know of a prior incident where this category of misaligned behavior was observed in the wild, but this is now a real and present threat."

Ending this operation is not enough.
We need justice and accountability. That starts with independent investigations into the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, economic restitution for businesses impacted, abolishing ICE, and the impeachment of Kristi Noem.
Ultimately right now in video games I feel surrounded by people who are worried, all the time, about long-term unemployment and ensuing social (or actual) death and so if you seem very invested in coming up with fun uses for LLMs in games I find you despicable.
IOW - you're a badass producer in an industry overflowing with execs who think crunch is peak gamedev.
"The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence." -Charles Bukowski
History is repeating again about people who make money or other success in one industry deciding to buy themselves into leadership positions within games with unfortunately predictable results.
What does this look like? How to deal with it. How to handle the aftermath...
