I live right across the river from his town. I've met him and his wife, they were amazing for the town he was mayor of, for the whole rust belt swath of ex-steel mill towns. I voted for him with so much confidence! All I can say is the stroke scrambled his brain.

IDK humans interacting with gods. Lack of awe is a GOOD thing, IMHO. And in most of them, there is respect. Look at Daja, who still has a shrine to Trader Oti (I think that's the name.)

Tamora Pierce's books all have some religious elements. More direct interactions with gods in the Tortall series... magic and religion working together in the Circle quartets. Both absolutely wonderful!
