Hard no to this: French publisher Harlequin has told translators that their work will now be done by AI. They can βreviseβ AI translations at much lower rate. Itβs a subsidiary of Harper Collins so treat this as a test for rollout elsewhere
This is brilliant news!
One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Heading home after a really great time at the bi-annual @careerswriters.bsky.social meeting today. Good to see everyone and hear all about what's happening in the careers sphere
Extract from the FT AI Shift newsletter: Another way of putting all of this is that the use of LLMs in job applications made the market much less meritocratic, with a 19 per cent fall in hiring for the most capable workers and a 14 per cent boost for the least capable. Oh, and the number of applications and length of cover letters roughly doubled, meaning more time needed to sift through less useful and often actively unhelpful submissions. Good job, everyone!
From the always interesting AI Shift newsletter by @jburnmurdoch.ft.com and @sarahoconnorft.ft.com:
AI is maximising job applications and word counts, in vicious circle of doom kind of ways

Sad to see that the curriculum review headed by Becky Francis decided that careers education, information and guidance were outside the terms of reference for the review.
It's so frustrating and short-sighted, Janet
