Here's the official poster. SO MANY COYOTES. In front of Mt. Rainier. On brand.
NEW SHOW: March 28th at Miller's in Carnation. Honestly, one of my favorite places to play. Such a cool room and the crowds there are always so generous. Hope to see you there. Can't wait!

100% wondering the same thing. It feels like being at a party where I donβt know anybody and Iβm not yet sure who is who and how to approach making connections.
Dear @linkedin.com,
No, I am not on a roll. I literally have done nothing on your platform in years. Stop it.
Best,
Yours truly
I have a playlist for you: Cascadia
These are songs by artists in the northwest USA who are active. I need to update it, but itβll give you a snapshot on some great indie talent in Cascadia.

A billboard with a scorpion on it with Joseph Pennellβs name in large type at the top, and Joe Day and Shay Carlucciβs names underneath. Below on the right side is the information about the show: Chop Suey (Seattle), February 13th, 8pm, $15.
I havenβt quite figured out what to do here in Blue Sky yet. Would love to connect with other musicians and artists. If thatβs you, say hi!
And if youβre in Seattle, Iβm playing Chop Suey with my good buddies Joseph Pennell and Shay Carlucci in Feb 13.

Billie Eilish from a few nights ago. Took the family (the daughters were sooooo stoked). Near perfection in every detail. It is always a treat to see someone at the peak of their game up close. What a show.

Hey! If we havenβt met yet, Iβm Joe. Iβm an independent singer/songwriter in the Seattle area. I make make sad music. But if you look twice, youβll notice itβs actually hopeful.
Itβs @bandcamp.com Friday. Buy a record to help me fund making the next one.

To those of you who listen, thank you so much. Iβm grateful for you. What a year.
Theyβre sophomores. And driving.
@hrbrmstr.dev hey Bob! Was thinking about you today. Itβs been so long. I hope you are well.
I love being a musician. Full stop.
Wish I could do it full time. But if that never happens, Iβll still be content doing what Iβm doing: writing, performing, recording, pushing myself, finding awesome people to share the journey with.
Canβt think of anything on this earth Iβd rather do.
Yo
Thanks Stan! Much appreciated!
In deleting ordinary and copying nothing all Jaguar seems to have done is remake Zoolander.
There will be feedback. The good kind. Not just a dude strumming an acoustic guitar. Come explore me stuff with me tomorrow night at Chop Suey.

Last thing Iβd say is that the original article you posted captures artist sentiment well: we have a problematic relationship with Spotify. We need it more than it needs us.
What it doesnβt provide is evidence that Spotify users are dissatisfied with the product direction.
The difference matters
Which sucks.
Hereβs the thread btwβ¦
Lots of interesting responses. I donβt have a huge following in Threads, the algorithm kicked this one up way beyond my normal engagement.

The work was worth it, but it required focused effort, and that might be the problem competitors face with Spotify: people are accustomed to not having to think about it.
Or to frame it a different way: the slow drift toward an everything app might not veer in to the intolerable for most users.
What was interesting to me is that there seemed to be an openness to try something else if the recommendations were as good, and ironically Iβve been finding Tidalβs discovery and recommendations to be really good, but to get there I had to export likes and playlists from Spotify and import them.
1. The changes didnβt bother them enough to give up the value they perceive Spotify provides with music discovery & recommendations, playlists, and their history of likes.
2. They tend to like not having to use a different app for podcasts.
3. They were ambivalent about artist royalties.
Yes. Iβve been using Tidal the last few months and loving it.
But the question comes down to this: are Spotify users feeling like itβs lost its way?
I asked folks this on Threads a few months ago and the response was an overwhelming βnoβ. Reasons..
Seattle, I'm playing Chop Suey Thursday night. Going to try out a bunch of new stuff. Would love to see you there if you're around.

Hello new friends. ππ»
Iβm Joe. Iβm an independent musician in the Seattle area. I write songs that sound sad but are hopeful.
Hereβs I song I wrote to the church as a lament for its obsession with power and money. Wrote it in 2018. Made the video last weekend.

My song Blue Skies. Track #1 on my album Halflight. Heavily influenced by a lifetime of listening to Neil Young. My dad plays on it, and itβs one of my momβs favorite songs.
How could I not make this my first @bsky.app post?
