Three people killed by drivers this week in NYC. If this had happened on the subway we wouldn’t stop talking about the DaNgER
Funny to see all those people and somehow the roadways are not clogged with bumper-to-bumper traffic...🤷♂️
We forced Mayor Muriel Bowser to release a long-delayed report on road pricing: ggwash.org/view/102681/... > Impt topic, but story also reflects crucial importance of strong urbanist organizations like @ggwash at the local level with the capacity to pursue difficult work over multi-year timespans.
Thanks for sharing. They appear to be B2C equivalent of “zombie aggregator” firms common in the B2B world (Verint, Upland, OTEX, CA back in the day). The model is to kill all dev, marketing, support, recruitment and let the tech die slowly but profitably until enough miserable customers jump ship. 🤮

Based on past experience, here's what the good people of Chevy Chase will say: "Since I'm not personally racist, I shouldn't have to support any redress here." And then scanning forward add, "I prefer to sustain surface parking lots next to the Metro because anything else will be...'Anacostia'..." 😖
An analysis of over 14 million social media posts from accounts in Canada found that 87% of conspiratorial claims come from just 100 influencers.
This minority of users impacts politics, influencing what people view as normal and leads to self-censoring to avoid attacks from conspiracy theorists.
One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.
When feeling threatened politically, Trump’s instincts take him back to the only professional success he ever had: The Apprentice. Create drama, center himself as arbitrary decider, and then declare resolution and move on to the next episode. Gift link: www.wsj.com/world/middle...

A traffic violence story doesn't get more American than this.
A man whose wife was killed crossing the street advocated for a signal and was later killed at the same intersection himself.
Neighbors have been asking for a traffic signal there for 40(!) years.

Been interesting trying to suss out the value of AI for various customer-facing domains--Sales, Marketing, Customer Care, Ecommerce etc--and have concluded for now that the most initial benefits can be found in Product. Perhaps also fewest downsides, tho curious about your list of disappointments...

We live in a world in which its entirely possible that Iran negotiations failed because people involved bet the under.
Can’t say for sure, but experience in my somewhat coddled east coast suburban community suggests that they fear anyone of notably lower or higher class than them. And they will assume people of color to be the former until proven otherwise.
I hear ya on the impact to local bookstores. Personally I've made my peace with any alternative to Amazon... Also something of a convert after discovering a newish & nicely-urbanized community in VA where the central (very walkable) commercial area was more or less anchored by a successful B&N.
Detailed local example of what could become a much bigger talking point for the pro-housing / #YIMBY community nationally: pre-empting school closure pressure by enabling higher enrollments via more housing... triangleblogblog.com/2026/02/26/b... via @triangleblogblog.bsky.social
Random Loma Prieta neighborhood captured in Google Maps
In Google Maps I zoomed in on a random Loma Prieta neighborhood. Seem like really natural supporters of transit and housing affordability...
Hurrah! Will you be going?
Elizabeth Holmes C @ElizabethHolmes X.com My federal prison camp let inmates stay up past count for the BET Music Awards. Last night they wouldn't let us watch the State of the Union. Photo of candidates onstage at the California YIMBY gubernatorial forum
The clear winner of today’s @cayimby.bsky.social gubernatorial forum was the YIMBY movement itself.
That every major candidate showed up, cited a lack of supply as the primary driver of the housing crisis, & offered actual policy solutions is a true testament of how strong the movement has become.
fact check: while the president is allowed to destroy the moral character and social fabric of the county, the supreme court has ruled that he is not allowed to destroy its economy
