A cold day on a rewetted Welsh blanket bog with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social and @peatblogger.bsky.social, but great to get our GHG sampling underway for our @water4all-eu.bsky.social project ECO-WADE.

Lovely Friday news; our EPSRC Impact Accelerator Account proposal has been successfully funded.
Titled "Ditching Methane to Engineer Net Zero" (yes, it's about ditches), and with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social and @peatblogger.bsky.social also on board. Looking forward to more ditch GHG work in 2026.
Migneint blanket bog with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social
today, installing collars for our @water4all-eu.bsky.social
project ECOWADE, + doing some pool GHG measurements for Laura's PhD.
Also enjoyed visiting a new restoration site where work has just started to reprofile an eroded area of peat hags.
Great few days sampling 2 sites in the North Pennines for aquatic GHG emissions. Thanks to the @northpennines.bsky.social for arranging access. @livunigeog.bsky.social
The 3 week Swedish adventure has come to an end. In total 20 sites have been sampled for GHG emissions including radiocarbon analysis. Sites ranged from Uppsala all the way down to Kalmar, Southern Sweden @livunigeog.bsky.social
Visited three sites today near SkΓΆvde, Sweden for aquatic GHG emissions. We even made a helpful new field assistant π± @livunigeog.bsky.social
Whew, a big field day in Uppland today with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social and @tksilver.bsky.social. We drove 300km and visited 7 rewetted/restored peatlands along the way. We made it to the wild and rocky NE coast of the county, before returning to Uppsala via a small but lovely alkaline fen.
Lovely to be once again back in Uppsala. Visited five rewetted/restored peatlands today to measure aquatic GHG emissions with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social & @tksilver.bsky.social
GHG sampling earlier this week at Westhay Moore, Somerset at some of the newer restoration areas. We even found some Sundew on site @livunigeog.bsky.social
Sampling some epic ditches today for GHG emissions at Honeygar farm in Somerset. @livunigeog.bsky.social
Successful morning at Greylake Somerset, sampling GHG emissions from a range of water bodies. @livunigeog.bsky.social
Incredible images from @fdraper.bsky.social's drone flying. Here's a lovely view of Sphagnum recolonising the recently rewetted "Mini Moss" raised bog site.
Two impressive ditches sampled today for GHG emissions at the newly restored Rufford site.
Had a great day today @egu.eu for βThe future of Northern peatlandsβ poster session were I presented the first of my PhD work. Thank you to everyone who came along to chat/see my poster (and for inspiring new ideas!)

Laura, wearing a black ball cap, light blue long-sleeved top, black trousers, and hiking boots, is standing on a boardwalk in a peatland and smiling at the camera. There are trees in the background. Behind Laura is a pool, and to the left are a couple of floating chambers stacked up which are used to measure greenhouse gas fluxes from peatland waterbodies.
The second recipient for the April round of #PeatNeeds is Laura Baugh (laurabaugh94.bsky.social). Laura is interested in GHG fluxes from waterbodies in rewetted peatlands, with a specific focus on methane. 1/2
Great morning with the drone at Risley Moss. Hoping the images captured can be used to work out the total area of water across the sites and used to upscale GHG emissions. Thanks to @fdraper.bsky.social for bringing his drone out to capture this data! @peatymike.bsky.social @livunigeog.bsky.social
At Risley Moss today watching @fdraper.bsky.social do some drone flights for @laurabaugh94.bsky.social's PhD research. Hoping the images collected will allow us to calculate how much of the bog is comprised of pools and allow us to upscale GHG emissions. @livunigeog.bsky.social
Then on Wednesday, 16:15β18:00, Hall X1 (X1.17), @laurabaugh94.bsky.social will have a poster about her ongoing PhD research about bog pools in rewetted peatlands, GHGs and radiocarbon.

I am predominantly focusing on CH4 but also measure CO2 and N2O.
The chambers depend on the site. For regular sites I deploy them seasonally. I am also looking at a spatial element across many sites so they will only go out on those sites once. I have 30 chambers I can deploy at any time.
Lovely sunny day at Risley moss for monthly water chemistry and dissolved GHGβs sampling.
Overnight floating chambers at Risley Moss last month. 20 pools sampled for GHGβs with 30 chambers deployed.
