An 'epidemic' of violence: The women and girls killed by men last year
We tracked reports and contacted police and prosecutors for a deeper look at the situation across UK.
"It is an "uncomfortable truth" that the greatest threat to women is not from strangers in dark alleys, but from those they know, trust and often live with."
I will bang on about this forever: darkness is not inherently dangerous and light does not stop violence. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Today I get to see and hug my best friend, whom I haven't seen and hugged for over a year, with the additional exhale of relief that she has just landed in London on a flight from Saudi Arabia. We are going to eat all the dumplings and today is a good day!

ALT: a man with his eyes closed and a mustache is asking who knows
In the next two weeks, I have to finish:
-a Beijing guidebook update
-a large batch of commercial copywriting for a client
-a new book proposal (?????)
-talks and decks for my US book events
-Making Tax Digital (FML)
Will her brain cooperate? Will she finish it all? Will US airspace be open?

If PRs & orgs want to promote astrotourism, they must understand basic planetary geography. I just can't help myself in being snarky in return when these places are obviously just trying to exploit keywords without doing any basic research, let alone actually practicing responsible astrotourism.

There are so few people in this world who truly show up. Make plans, don't flake. Are game. Have follow through. I used to let it upset me when people flaked. Now I focus my energy on the ones who show up. Your true people will make effort & be beside you. (Mentally refiling a few people this week)

A copy of Nightfaring: In Search of the Disappearing Darkness
Lovely to celebrate the launch of @meganeaves.comโs brilliant new book #Nightfaring at the Book Elephant.
Itโs an engaging and illuminating exploration of our relationship with darkness and the night sky. Highly recommended.

Nightfaring provides a moving argument for navigating the way back to the majesty and intimacy of the shadows, showing that profound discoveries are often made in the dark. Starred Review: Nightfaring: In Search of the Disappearing Darkness www.shelf-awareness.com/theshelf/202...

Sadly there was no date in Newcastle, but that's not to say we couldn't try for one in the spring sometime! My publisher arranged most of the dates and it depends on their relationships with local bookshops. But if there is a good bookshop, astronomy club or other dark sky connection let me know!
