Just look at how much energy we spend as societies to make sure poor people donβt get 5 Euros/ Pounds/ whatever more in benefits. Thatβs thousands upon thousands of public servants. Look at how few people actually work on auditing rich people right now in our countries. Itβs all political decisions.
Cannot read the article behind the paywall, but this is not true and an argument that rich people love to put forward to obfuscate the simple reality: most of their assets are immovable, like companies and properties. They are quite easy to tax, we just have to have the political will to do it.
Not all heroes wear capes.
Also, 528 Megawatts?!? I just did a quick google search and that is roughly equivalent to the smallest nuclear power plant in the US. Just for this one data centre.
The hardest part of academic writing is remembering which synonym for important you havenβt used yet
I wrote a longer essay on how social status matters for far-right support. Many still wrongly associate the far right with the economically left behind. Taking social status seriously also cautions against the idea that deliverism will win back far-right voters.

This is extrajudicial execution, without any clear threat to the US, no authorization from Congress, and far beyond even Article II. The military is not the president's personal hit squad.
Or wasn't, until now.
I mean, that reply though, 10/10, no notes

Interesting, that would make sense, thanks.
Thanks, will do!
Interesting, thank you for sharing. Any pointers to where one can read more about the potential underlying reasons?
Help: I remember seeing a recent-ish paper (economics?) on cross-disciplinary citations in social science. Anyone here can confirm I'm not hallucinating?
So, listen up, kids:
When Russia deliberately launches dozens of drones against Poland and Romania, that is NOT warmongering and NOT a threat of war between Russia and NATO.

A line chart showing that 38% of webpages from 2013 were no longer accessible one decade later.
LINK ROT: 38% webpages that existed in 2013 were no longer available 10 years later.
Even among pages that existed in 2021, 22% no longer accessible just two years later. This is often because individual page was deleted or removed on otherwise functional website.

Uhm, he suggested to just kill people with mental illness who commit crimes. On air. I am not even sure what to say any longer.
Hahaha, thatβs really funny!
plenty of things going against the right globally: Bolsonaro's conviction in Brazil, the defeat of the right wing in Norway's election, the student strikes and Saba Saba protests in Kenya (brutal as the repression there was), the EU's von der Leyen pursuing sanctions and trade suspension for Israel
Bluesky doesnβt get to position itself as an alternative to the Nazi app and suspend Black women for being flippant about someone who was a MAJOR factor in attacks on our well being and livelihood, while his own folks actually killed him is still frying my brain. And youβre gonna hear about it.

I think we should have never stopped highlighting how deeply, deeply weird these guys are. Just so strange.
Hahaha, this is amazing, thanks.

I know, explaining memes is always a bit silly, but I am just so curious: Why the dog?!?!
Big shout out to the Austrian politicians who are destroying Schengen because they're too scared to stand up to a bunch of racist Facebook Uncles. I hate you all.
