The inscriptions were identified during a study conducted in 2024 & 2025 by Prof Charlotte Schmid & Prof Ingo Strauch & were presented in a paper titled ‘From the Valley of the Kings to India: Indian Inscriptions in Egypt’ @ the Internl Conf on Tamil Epigraphy.

An example of the 8 Tamil graffiti discovered in 5 different tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The graffiti say "Cikai Korran"(the Indian merchant's name) & are dated 1st-3rd cent CE. The scholars who deciphered them gave a paper in Chennai a few days ago.

Preliminary studies suggest that the southern part of Tel Aziz was part of the city’s central core, with the temple remaining in use for centuries, from the 26th Dynasty through the Roman period.

This is a great article about the 80 pairs of sandals 🩴 buried with King Tut (afterlife shoes!), but it’s disappointing that they don’t mention the 4 pairs of socks (from the Greek σύκχος) 🧦 discovered. Note: the socks worn with the sandals are just as interesting!
