The image depicts the magnificent Long Room of the Old Library at Trinity College Dublin, a grand, barrel-vaulted hall lined with towering bookshelves filled with ancient texts and adorned with marble busts. Trinity College has been the home of the Book of Kells since 1661.
A new study suggests the magnificent medieval Book of Kells may not have been made on Iona but at Portmahomack, a Pictish monastery in eastern Scotland, where decorated stone carvings closely match its ornate letters, challenging long-held beliefs about its origin.
