”The consequence of a newly unreliable and even hostile United States, therefore, will likely be significant military buildups by former allies. This will not mean sharing the burden of collective security, because these rearmed nations will no longer be American allies.”
Oh now I get it. Dubai is Golgafrinchan Ark B.
It's not that the US wants to leave NATO, they just want to change it into the Warsaw Pact
I remain of the view that for someone to argue something is capitalism's fault, they need to 1) have a coherent definition of capitalism that does not include all societies and 2) be able to show a non-capitalist society that does not demonstrate the problem in question to a similar degree.
These are very dangerous conversations -- saying that Europe has nothing to fear and that, in the event of an invasion of Western countries, Russia would not win, since Putin couldn’t "even" defeat Ukraine.
#HappyHedgehogDay !!! 🦔 Check out this little guy!! A small model of a hedgehog that is about 4,500 years old! from Chalandriani, Syros, Greece. Early Cycladic II period (2800-2300 BCE). National Archaeological Museum, Athens, Greece. 📷 My own.
I confess there are moments when I think about the other candidates that might have been suited to Mr Rutte‘s Job.
Reminds me of a very similar bit of training female members of the British secret service were given during WW2: "Don't ask a man who works for their government what's happening. Confidently tell him something you know to be inaccurate, and he will be forced to correct you".
Exactly.
The idea that those of us who worry about the transatlantic relationship never liked the US in the first place is simply wrong.
And it trivialises the situation.
it might seem that attacking Minnesota, Greenland, Denmark and Norway is a strange choice of foes but what people don't understand is that Donald Trump has very strong feelings about the sack of Lindisfarne in 793.
It’s one thing being told (politely or rudely) to do more for your own security - or even being abandoned by the US.
It’s a completely different thing that the US is now actively acting in ways that threaten or decrease European security, not only on Greenland but also by accommodating Russia
A "booshop", is that a social media hate bubble?
"By threatening to set off a bomb in his local McDonald's, Trump was able to persuade them to sell him a Big Mac. This is The Art Of The Deal at its most sophisticated!"
Godt fra Strømmen om Vedums defaitisme. www.nordnorskdebatt.no/a-spele-trum...
Problemstillingen er litt rotete.
1. Jeg støtter ikke en VM-boikott nå.
3. Dersom USA invaderer Grønland, bør vi definitivt boikotte. www.vg.no/sport/i/ExpM...
Fin klubb, dette Trump-alternativet til FN.
Text: Old adversaries Sir, Your obituary (Jan 19) of Mr Justice Blofeld rightly referred to his fine sense of humour. When he first sat in Winchester a barrister called Richard Bond stood up to open the first case. Mr Justice Blofeld began to stroke the white ermine on the sleeve of his High Court judge’s robes as if stroking a cat. He then said with a smile: “We meet at last, Mr Bond.” Sir John Royce Clifton, Bristol
Letter in Times today
What European leaders have been most nervous about is the US pulling back on NATO or Ukraine… but how can Europe trust the US will come to its defense if its trying to seize territory from a NATO country. They can’t. So why cave to keep a security commitment that is not real. 6/

The Nordics are going all in on Greenland.
Norway sent two (2) guys and the Swedish guys are unarmed
Still, both are better than the non-existing contribution from Finland
