I've started going back to gym after a year of healing from some injuries. I've let myself go, but it feels good to be back. This sketch was a just me practicing new techniques. I have new ideas of things to try <3

Thank you so much for your kind words and indulging my crashout 😭I want to do better, I just think I needed to rant. I think it's hard, especially when we live in a time where art is treated less like expression and more like a product.

I feel like a machine that's purpose is to put out pretty paintings, and if I don't, I've failed everyone. It's the most stifling feeling I've dealt with relating to my art.

I think ultimately I am sick of my painterly artstyle. It's not fun to do anymore and I spend my process fretting over details that will 'impress' others. This style has given me many of my closest friends, but I don't think I can do it anymore.

I haven't posted in a long time because I've been in a dark place for long time. I've had a handful of work related injuries and pretty severe depression. The art I used to make felt exhausting to paint. I did some less structured painting today and it felt good. Maybe I need to do that more?
