In Asia, there is huge under reporting. Based on November 2025 data UNODC, approximately 17,400 women and girls in Asia were killed by an intimate partner or family member in 2024
In South Africa, as of late 2025, reports indicate that a woman is murdered every three hours. This rate is approximately 6 times higher than the global average.
In 2023, at least 3,897 women were victims of femicide across 27 countries/territories in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In Ireland, 1 in every 2 femicide victims (55% of resolved cases) is killed by a current or former male intimate partner.
In USA, on average, three women are murdered by their husbands, boyfriends, or exes every day in America.
According to UN office of drugs and crime, some 47,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members in 2020. This means that, on average, a woman or girl is killed by someone in her own family every 11 minutes.
International Women's Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, violence & abuse against women.
